I want one that will actually read at 7-800 yards in the field a thousand on a target..

would like to be able to read moving targets also..

fit in shirt pocket would be a big plus also,

what would you get??
 
Check out the Bushnell Elite 1500 rangefinder. I have heard a lot of good stuff about these and they get excellent reviews on the web.

they perform what I want but seem aweful bulky..

The Leica gets my vote but I own a Bushnell Elite 1500. I bought it used from a friend for $200 and it does well. The Leica reads faster though. When I get $2k saved up, I will own a pair of Geovids.
 
I have an RX-1000 TBR model and it is a well built instrument. I didn't find it hard to use after reading the manual and the optics are fairly good, great compared to the Bushnells. My only complaint is that the red rectile is difficult to see on a bright sunny field and almost impossible to see against snow, but I use mine primarily for bow hunting and it works fine.
 
Hands down, a used leica 1200 CRF... should be able to find a used one for $400-$450. Incredible optics, reliably ranges deer at 700-800 yards, and treelines at 1300. You'll spend more than triple to get anything the next class up.
 
That's seems like a good deal. I use the RX-750, and I've been really happy with it. The only thing is that it doesn't read from about 40-50 yards with the last shot mode on which is kind of a bummer for bow hunting. It works without the last shot on though. I emailed a Leupold guy, and he said it's a common problem.

I read somewhere they dont work from 50-100 yards on the bow setting because you aint supposed to shoot a bow at that range..probably BS but I read that somewhere
