So, hunting on percy today and just as it is getting daylight here comes an elmer fudd carrying a 22. So i whistle, figuring he will get out of there. And he turns around and walks off.

So about 45 mintues later i hear a 22 shot. I was pissed, it was very close, maybe 50 yds away. I couldnt see him, but i was pissed. So i go to climb down and approach the poacher, and I think, what good is this going to do? So i text my wife to call twra and tell them.

I didnt want to get down, so i finished hunting. Of course I didnt see anything.

Well, i finally wrap it up and get out of the woods and there it lays. A little spike. Well with frustration building I exit the woods and there they are. Good ole twra.

They have a guy in cuffs, and a younger woman with him. Neither one spoke too much english. Turns out they were still looking for the shooter. The two they had were just helping clean the deer.

So I wrote a report, turns out there were a few more witnesses who also wrote reports.

Hopefully they catch the shooter, either way, thanks twra. That made me feel better about my busted morning of hunting.

I thought .22 rimfire was legal on Priest? Obviously for small game though. I'm sure Josh or Eric had a field day with that onegood job TWRA!! Hopefully the court system will put some teeth behind this action, because I see goofy stuff like this more and more often out there.

Glad they caught them. I would bet a lot of that goes on during the small game season. Some people just can't resist temptation. Good job Matt for reporting it and good job twra for catching them.

Wish their was a button you could push that did the epic fail cartoon trumpet "wah wah wah" when busted by the TWRA lol

I'm sorry your hunt was ruined Matt, but I'm glad the guys in green took care of business. Glad you had the wherewithal to make the call too. I've run into small game hunters on WMA's while bowhunting and usually they are good guys. Obviously this guy wasn't.

I certainly hope this guy doesn't get the usual treatment (read pat on the back and hearty apology) that most, well, you know get.

I have never seen anyone hunting squirrels over here. And at the time, I didn't even though it was ilegal to use a .22 on Percy due to the close proximity to houses. Plus, I heard the deer crash after he shot, he was that close to me I just couldn't see him because of thick stuff between us.

A question to ponder about this case. If the shooter turns out to be an illegal alien and he purchased the rifle from a dealer and a ATF form 4473 was completed than the culprit may also be guilty of a federal firearms violation. He was not legally in the US and may be quilty of lying on his answers on the 4473. Add federal time to his state time.

Awesome that they caught them! I wonder if that was the shooter and had just hidden the gun upon seeing TWRA?

No, he took off running. There were turkey hunters that heard the shots and came my way too. They seen him, and the other two cutting the deer up with a 22 propped against the tree. After questioning both of the two that they caught, they came to the conclusion the shooter called them to help cut up the deer. I comfirmed this, because afetr the shot I heard him talking on the phone shortly after the deer dropped.

I thought about this as well

I have heard the laotian, asian, mexican, etc. population is starting to kill all the deer they can on Percy Priest WMA. Same way they abuse the fish population.

You heard right....anywhere around the Antioch area is getting absolutely hammered with themI ditched my favorite spot a couple of years ago because of all of their illegal activities. I've busted several of them unloading bags of corn fixing to walk it onto the WMA and also walked up on numerous piles of corn, and called the TWRA. I decided it wasn't worth it if I unknowingly hunted in one of those baited areas and got busted for it, so I moved on.

Yep, hopefully this sends a message to them but I'm not sure they care.

The first two weekends I seen 15 deer in two sits. The past 2 times I have went I haven't seen anything alive. I found one deer that escaped the guys .22 Saturday evening. She was in very very thick stuff. Probably layed down in there to die. Had 3 tiny bullet holes in her shoulder, I assume .22 caliber.

That makes me fightin mad! They keep every fish that is bigger than a butterbean and now they have turned to the deer. I hope I can keep my cool if I see it happen, it's one thing fishing but with hunting equipment it can get ugly fast.

We need or rather the wildlife needs stiffer jail time and no letting anyone off because of a lanuage barrier or ignorance of the law. "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time!"

Or lack of ID.... I have seen them get away with traffic laws and such because they can't track em down. I say they should deport everyone of em if they can't produce legal papers on the spot!
