Met my neighbor today ,the one next to my land purchase.The first thing he asked was about hunting.We had a good talk.He has a 8 point minimum on his land.Maybe not QDM,but Ill take it.
 
That's good Football Hunter. Maybe a giant 7 point 150" buck will
wander off his property on to your property. He might even make
it within site of your stand.

Before ya'll laugh, one of the best bucks I've seen killed in
middle Tennessee, was a 155" 7 pointer. Unreal mass and tine
length. Lewis/Hickman county line around 1978.

From that day, number of points don't mean squat to me.

Back to your neighbor, I wonder if that rule would be in effect,
if a "7 pointer" like that came by his stand?

Probably not RKenney,but the likely hood of that seems pretty low,a 7 0r 8 or 10 to score 150,hes shot.Just a general guide line I guess.
 
I have heard of several property managers who stand fast about
how many "points" the buck has, no matter how large the rack
might be. To me, that does not make any sense at all. There could
be several 4 1/2 or 5 1/2 bucks with less than 8 points.

Again, I wonder how many of these so called managers would really
pass up a buck like that.........themselves. A few might, but I
would almost bet big money, that when most saw the mass, spread,
tine length, and a big bodied deer........the "count" would go
out the window.
 
Ok ,RKenney,Im just saying Im happy my neighbor didnt say it was a free for all on his place ,where everyone killed all the bucks they possibly could.Didnt say it was the best mangement practice ever.
 
Thats awesome. I wish our neighbors did that.

Last year, I had a little 4 pt hangin around and then walked right towards our neighbors. It was kinda sad, b/c I knew there were several of them hunting over there that weekend and knew that this little deer was fixin to die. This was after he ate under my stand for over an hour. Well, never heard a shot....My neighbor told the guy that watches after our place that he had him in his sights that evening and decided to not pull the trigger. I guess you win some and you lose some. I hope they keep moving in that same direction!

Yes, not the best management like you said but better than killing everything!
 
i hunt on 1700 acres, the 3000 next to me is a 8 point 15 in spread or better, on the other side of me is about 1000 acres and they dont let anything walk, "if its brown shoot it". we try to shoot 8 points or better but we dont inforce the 15 in. minimum. and on one side of us is fall creek falls state park.

yeah,there has to be some give and take,a guy killed a relly nice 10 on our lease in Overton,scored about 145 I think.Inside spread is supposed to be 15,it wasnt but nobody said a thing,just some guidelines help out.
