Yesterdays field trial at Volunteer Beagle Club was awesome, had a blast! A couple of weeks ago my buddy brought me his Double Buckshot male and asked me to run him to get him ready so I put some ground time on him. Even though he measured in at 13 1/8" and had to run in the 15" class of males he hung in and was able to get 3rd which was suprising because those big dogs can roll!!! I was also able to help judge in the 13" female class which was the first time Ive ever judged and it was awesome! Hopefully ill get more opportunities in the future! Not the best pic of Dub but it was hard to hold him, the certificate and collar he won while posing him haha.

Tailchaser: I thought about you yesterday, I know you said you were looking for a dog who ran a 7 or faster but I think you wouldve been pleased with a few of these dogs, especially the winners! They could flat get after it, good control with plenty of speed. A little quicker than what I run but enjoyable to watch. The final 3 little females could really run!

Dang man I started to post on this board about Volunteers trial but I figured most would be turkey hunting so I wasnt sure if it would gain any interest, wish now I wouldve! Its definitley a great way to spend the day. Wall to wall houndsman, some good dogs pounding rabbits all day, breakfast and a good bbq lunch and just an overall good time with good people. Most times someones always greeting you with a smile and a hand shake.

Below is a video of a dog thats real popular right now his pups are winning and placing in trials all over it seems. Just for reference are you looking for something stronger? Just kind of like to have an idea in case I run across any good ones for sale. There were some at the trial saturday that seemed even a step quicker than this video

Thats a good looking pack of dogs in the video I would be happy with that ,they look like they where 6-7 to me,what do you think they are? BTW thanks for thinking of me Im new to all this AKC stuff and have just started learning about different bloodlines and what there known for.I've always just pleasured hunted but am wanting to get into it a little more.

Id say thats pretty on the speed. Medium-upper medium. The saying "as fast as conditions allow, as slow as conditions demand" is the best way to look at it in my opinion.

No problem man, it can almost feel a litte overwhelming just getting started with the registered dogs. I know thats how i felt! I was lucky enough when I got my start to come up under the wing of a local guy who is as far as Im concerned like legend. He knew his stuff and he took it serious. He was an older fellow who didnt mind teaching me things and more importantly answering all the questions I asked and believe me there was plenty of them!! I rabbit hunted my whole life but until I met Mr.Jarrell thats all I was was a rabbit hunter, he turned me into a houndsman. There were times I would bring a notebook and just listen and write as he talked, other days Id go home and write down all of it that I could remember. I still have that notebook and will pass it down someday. He was a great man and I think about and miss him everyday. If you dont have someone like that then a trial is a great start. Lots of different dogs to watch and see what you like. If you see one(or more)that stand out to you ask what its out of. The first trial I went to I was nervous as all get out, I only knew 1 person but everyone makes you feel welcome, a lot of the guys see a new face and walk right up and start talking and welcoming you which is easier than having to break the ice yourself as the new guy. I was asked to field marshall that day(following behind the judges picking up the dogs they were cutting, firing the pistol checking the pack for gun shyness stuff like that) more or less shadowing the judges. It was a long day of running behind and following dogs but it was hands down the best way to see my first trial I had a front row seat for everything. Awesome experience! Id have no problem at all if this summer or fall you ever wanted to run or just talk dogs whatever, in fact id be happy to but experiencing a field trial is definitley a lot of fun also if you love hounds. A great way to spend the day for sure
