going from pyrodex to 777 ?

i dont know but the crud ring is very evident using 777 pellets,mark your ramrod if you dont all ready,i would have saved somepowder & bullets if i had,mike243

Some say 15% some say 20% from my experience 85g is about right. I started out using Pyrodex as well but will only shoot it now if a gun will not shoot anything else. 777 is more powerful and easier to clean. The only issue I have w/777 is it sometimes is more picky w/different guns than Pyrodex.

As for the crud ring... Some get it some don't. I've never got one in about 8 or 10 different MLs. I think it has to do w/humitity and also what you prep the barrel with. I use a 50/50 windex and rubbing alchol mix for swabbing and for storing I use a LIGHT coat of Rem oil. I've never got a crud ring using that meathod. But then again, no one really knows where it comes from so that may have nothing to do with it. That's just my personal experience on why it happens.

BH 209 is a great alternative if your gun will shoot it.(You didn't mention which gun you have) It works great when used correctly. I measure BH the same way I do 777.

you must use 209 primers to make the BH209 burn. They also say your breach must be a certain type but I dispelled that theory with my t/c black diamond. I had the wrong breech according to Blackhorn but my gun shot it fine.

I switched to 777 pellets when they came out. Lots easier to clean up than pyrodex. Didn't notice any differance in the crud ring.

100gr pyrodex = 85gr 777

The crud they are talking about; I have never experienced it. Use a good 209 primer like Winchester 777 Primer or Remington Primers, I use the Remington Kleenbore and some will say they are no good but for me I have perfect ignition every time and very little build up on my breech plugs.

I recently went to 777 loose from the 777 pellets and previous to that I used Pyrodex pellets. My opinion is that 777 is alot easier to ignite, burns faster, and cleans easier. Also, there is a more crisp sound when it is ignited. I've also gotten better accuracy since going to loose...

Yeah my 700ML "shouldn't" work with it either but it does.

So does Bass Pro. Just bought some Saturday, trying it out tomorrow night.

It's about $10 a container more than Pyrodex and 777, but I figured my time was worth something as well. If I save an hour or two of cleaning, then I consider it an even trade.
