Dramatically in the last week or so…now that I haven't been able to get out. More roost gobbling than all year and really good gobbling during the day at times as well. I may have a chance to get out the next couple days

I have seen A LOT more lone strutting toms in fields the past week. I mean enough of them it really has caught my attention all the sudden.
Great report, hope you can capitalize soon. How are you hearing them........from your yard?

Yes, from the yard. Mostly they are in the one neighbor I can't hunt on in the mornings, but on my place and other neighbors I can hunt on during the day. And this morning there was a hen in my yard when I walked out to go to work

Yep. Had great gobbling Sunday. Found one for my brother on roost and then after fly down turned out to be 3. What I didn't know about this spot is it has a walking trail on it. 3 ppl walked by and bumped them then i finally got in their bubble and called twice. Walked back to my brother and one of broke from the group and gobbled closer. We setup and he gave us 2 more gobbles about 75 yards out but couldn't see him. The next thing I hear is him flying off and I couldn't figure it out til I saw a lady and a dog coming thru. Great morning but wrong ending

I will echo this. Juvenile Saturday and the Opener to the Statewide season was really good. My 3 hunts since have been completely dead.
It's been the same for me, and I still have two tags to fill plus some family to take and have only seen one gobbler since opening day when I heard 5-6. Going at least two mornings a week and different spots, it's like the Toms went dormant.
You're in Hickman county right? One of our guys was down there Sunday morning and said they gobbled good. I haven't been back down there since opening weekend and probably won't staying closer to home.

And to update…they are still gobbling quite good. I had Wednesday and Thursday off but none were where I could get to them. Thursday I spent the whole day laying block for my daughter and SIL new house and listened to one gobble from 545 till 6pm. He gobbled the whole day within 3-400 yards of the homesite, in the neighbors filed I can't hunt. It is usual they do this late season every year, and I have only ever once called one out of that field. Our one lane dirt road and and a creek are in the way. One of my other girls told me she heard one on our hill late Monday afternoon when I was in town with the wife :rolleyes:
I still hear 3-4 others every morning on the roost further away, so there are still birds out there able to be killed.
Be grateful it didn't take a turn for the worse with pedestrians walking unaware that close to you. I've never hunted a public hunting area and encountered pedestrians and dogs. State park? Morning or afternoon hunt?

Heard at least 5 this morning. Worked 3 hens off of 2 long beards but still think they had more at the time. Field too high to tell. Anyways got them to about 70 and someone in a boat beating and banging finally spooked them further. Let them disappear and did a loop on them. Looped and got 150 yards away and I see a fan just over under the rise. They closed distance slowly to soft calling. Guy i took wanted to crawl the field to em instead of getting directly in front of em. His hunt so we go at em. We finally meet them and bam a miss. It happens tho. Fun hunt.
Hunted yesterday until 1:00 and only heard 2 birds. One gobbled 3-4 times on the roost and then not another peep. The other bird never made a sound and around 7:00 we started toward where the first bird gobbled. Looked back across the pasture and there was a bird standing there hammering right where we had been. We moved on him multiple times and 11,000 steps later he had whipped us like a couple of rented mules. He was by himself all day and would just sit and gobble. Nothing I did made him remotely interested. At one point he just stood in the middle of the field like a statue for what seemed like eternity. Private land bird with little pressure.
The first bird I killed this season gobbled 4 times in the 2 hours I worked him. He hung up for a long time. The second bird gobbled once from a crow call, and 4 more times in the 30 minutes I worked him.

Took my daughter Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Saturday evening, saw one at 80 yards but was with a hen. He wasn't leaving her and was silent. Sunday morning, saw one about 250 yards out for over an hour. He was silent and not wanting to play. On the other hand, we had a bird gobbling and drumming his tail off within 100 yards for over 2.5 hours. He just wouldn't close the distance. Went silent for 45 minutes, I called and he was down off in the deep hollow moving away. We packed up and left
