what would be acceptable groups for a self defence auto pistol??
5 rounds in 2 inches at 25 yards???looks good to me but should a man expect better than that,,
 
Yes that is good as long as you can do that in a stress situation. Stress situations will usually be closer than that. Three to the body and two in the head.

Have you seen the Glock guy on youtube shooting the 26 and 27 at 75+ yards. He is banging steel with regularity with those guns.
 
cheap ww 357 sig 115 fmj walmart ammo,,

at 1.25 a round the Speer Gold Dot aint gonna get shot unless it`s a serious situation,,got 500 brass ordered and will go from there for practice ammo..

I am gettin really used to the trigger system that claims 5 pounds but breaks at way less,,
 
I figure in a stress situation I will point it towards center mass and send 13 125 Gold Dot Bullets that way..

Just about any decent modern handgun is capable of more accuracy than just about any shooter, even during slow, deliberate fire. Add in "gun fighting" elements like speed, movement, multiple targets, etc, and even the best shooters in the world can't shoot as accurately as their guns allow. Most "off the rack" defensive pistols will shoot rested groups of around 4-5" at 25 yards, which is more than adequate for defensive purposes.
 
In a real life situation it will usually happens in close...7 feet or closer. Learn to shoot in close using just the front sight post and hitting the target. double tap, center mass and blade across to your strong side staying on target...if it moves shoot it again! There are a number of great self defense weapons courses out there and they are usually alot of fun and will teach you something about your weapon, your tactics and how to get out of a life threatening situation alive.

Even though I dont like the Brick..I mean Glock, its a dependable self defense piece that will give you great groups on the range and keep you alive in a us or them situation.

Your right Mr Big....many many people who get involved in a self defense shooting empty the weapon!!!
 
I walked through a couple IDPA courses when Daddy and my Brother used to be in it a lot,,

one thing Daddy said I always try and remember,,you cant miss fast enough to win,, or stay alive,,

there is no way I can afford enough ammo to play those games,,but they have some super nice steel moving targets I could borrow,,

That was not the case with mine. I can shoot 1 hole groups with my XD, Sigs(3), and the Kimber I used to have, the Glock wasnt even close to that. In fact I have never seen a Glock deliver 2" groups @ 25 yards, hardly 5" groups, you must have a good one.

The unusaully thick grip and the grip angle of the Glock throws some shooters off, but if you lock a Glock down in a shooting Rest and pull the trigger 3 times @ 25 yds, all three shots will pretty much be in the same hole. Now, if the Glock works for you that is a different story. The grip/angle just doesn't work for some people but thankfully there are alot of choices out there. I'll be the first to admit that I shoot way better w/a 1911 than any Glock, but I feel the Glocks advantages more than make up for this (reliability, durability, ease of maintenance, weight,weather resistance, multiple caliber choice....)and I can live w/ the 2-3" groups @25 yds.
