They making seeds yet?
Loved hunting that stuff in my younger days. My brother in law took me when I was 14 and showed me how to find it.
No, just getting ready to bloom. The seeds turn red in early sept.normally, although in dry year some turn in late august.
I've got a few patches growing I need to check on. People who think they can plant it and get rich are WAY wrong! Like you pretty much said, it takes years to grow a harvestable sized root.
Wondering do any people in Tennessee make home remedies or tonics from ginseng or does it all get sold to go overseas?

All the guys who I know that dig it sell it and I'm sure it goes overseas.
I worked with an old man, pre-Viagra days, and he made a tonic I believe using Ginseng. I had no need for it at the time.
You can buy it at the store cheaper than what you can sell it for if it's good root. I sell it.
Wife's grandpa used to make what he called bitters. Don't know if it had recipe, he took a quart of moonshine dropped in some sang root, yellow root, sassafras root, and some other stuff, let it set for a while and taken as needed. It might have cured what ails you, but I think it may have contributed to his fatal case of lead poisoning!
