I just picked up some family owned land in Giles County. 15ac south east of Pulaski and north of Hwy 64. I have always heard great things about Giles, Lawrence and Lincoln counties but I have not hunted it so I know nothing of the land first hand. My question is does this area have a decent deer population? I live in Central Alabama and am not sure it is worth buying an out of state license to hunt since the tract is so small. Can anyone here give me an idea on the deer/turkey herd and hunting in that area. Thanks.
 
There are plenty of quality deer in Giles Co., but how productive your 15 acres is depends on a whole lot of other factors.

Tennessee has reasonable non-resident fees. Depending upon the adjacent/surrounding acreage 15 may not seem like a lot �but� a private go to spot is a worthwhile expenditure. I would go for it, a few friends hunt the east side of Lawrence, no shortage from what they tell me.

Haha, pressfit. Thanks for the responses. Its all wooded (hardwoods)for the most part and the land surrounding it is the same. Has a creek nearby but not on the property I have. Has had very little hunting from what family tell me. It is off Leatherwood Rd. I think there is a lumber mill of some kind on that road. Sounds like it may be worth my effort to try?
 
Should have a high deer population. The quality will depend on your "neighbors" hunting practices. Definitely worth the price of a license to find out. Good luck.
 
Giles county has one of the highest kill totals in deer and turkeys every year. Giles, Lincoln, and Lawrence are IMO some of the three best counties to hunt for deer or turkeys. 15 acres is tough though. You should still give it a try.

Yep!!!.....and great genetics and a little better quality of soil than Wayne county. Lots of really great deer have been killed in that county. A 3.5 year old there will be a nice trophy!! a 4.5 to 5.5 will be close to a booner.
