Man what a crazy morning. Started off early me an my father hunting opposite ridges about 500 yards apart. It starts off early for me I see 3 doe's all together at about 6:45am. I was sitting in a clump of trees in a field at the base of a ridge there were no bucks in sight. That was the only deer I seen on my side till 9:00am. My father passed up a spike all alone just milling around. I decide to get down out of my stand as usually here all the activity is early and fast. I started scouting the base of the ridge as this was a new spot for me. As I slowly walk the base of the ridge I start seeing numerous rubs and scrapes the most I have ever seen in the woods before Im talking 10 to 15 rubs and 5 to 6 scrapes I started getting pumped up and decided to text my dad and let him know I was walking the ridge and to keep a heads up for deer. No sooner than I send this I jump a buck and doe up the ridge 10 to 15 min later BOOOOOM!!!!! I hear my dad shot this basket rack 6 point . he text me says deer came from my direction and confirmed it was the 2 deer I saw. I go back and take my stand down and head to the truck to drive over and help him start field dressing his deer . I get there and head his way I leave my gun in the truck which will never happen again. I get 20 yards and see my dad hand signaling me to stop and bout that time I hear a deer blow and see several deer running through the woods up his side of the ridge. I make my way over to him and he says it was one of the big bucks we got on cam a few times I immediately start getting pumped up as we thought he was dead after not seeing him since bow season. He says where is your gun and told him I left it in the truck. So he hands me his gun and says keep any eye out they were chasing does. So after about 10 min standing there here they come back. These does were running for there life 2 does with 3 bucks chasing them. I couldnt get a shot as they were 80 yards through the woods this goes on for another 20 to 30 min and they disappear. After waiting almost 20 min we decide to head back to his deer and get started no sooner than we get our rubber gloves I hear crashing through woods look and the deer are headed right for us. I get into position on a tree to balance and they turn and go the other way then jump over a fence and start heading to my left so I turn and one doe comes in to me just to my left and 2 smaller bucks chase the other doe off. Then I catch movement coming through the woods and couldnt believe what I saw he might not be big to some but he is huge for me this big 8 point steps and and was headed straight to me and wasnt offering a broadside shot I see the doe start to run off and he sees her and stops and is about to turn and run her way when I let a loud grunt by mouth and he turns and looks at me and BOOOM!!!! Droped him right where he stood. Sorry for the long read but Im still pumped up

"he might not be big to some but he is huge for me"

It doesn't make one difference what anyone else thinks about your trophy. You think he is a hoss and it has clearly made you super excited and that is all that matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you different. I think it is an awesome buck and story. Congrats!!!!!

Very few on this site would pass on that buck! I know I wouldn't. Cool story! Congrats on the double. Good stuff right there.

I have to tell you guys I have never experienced rutting like this I usually see a doe being followed by a buck nothing really like this . I have never seen deer sprinting through the woods like this trying to get to these does. Many it was nuts they probably covered well over 500 600 yards running back and forth and back and forth they could care less that we were even there. My dad said this is why we hunt for this rush and if you can catch the rut that just makes it even better .
