Hmmm. I really don't know. I'm not even sure if you'd hear anything except for to get the next newsletter. I'll check on it, though.

Are you going to SEOPA?

No on SEOPA. Just don't travel that well anymore. Told Lisa to just send me whatever it is. Besides, I should go to IL with SCN and scout for you :)

Well unfortunately, I'm not on the IL lease. But I'll work on that! ;)

Max says you are indeed a TOWA member in good standing and will be getting a copy of the Membership Directory in a few days. i didn't hear back from Owen yet, but I assume your check has been cashed. Thanks for giving it another shot. I have finally rotated off the board, and I'm sort of looking forward to it.

We'll miss you at SEOPA. I'll give you a full report.

Owen wrote back that he deposited your check on July 25.

Lisa said you are disqualified for life for bad behavior! :D

She is just mad because I won't tickle her fancy. Bad behavior is what made me famous.

I knew the check was cashed, just wondered when I got all the stuff like a newsletter and directory and of course, of great import to me, the contest rules. :)

I haven't entered a contest in years. I had rotated to be on the EIC committee of TOWA for a couple years, so I couldn't enter. Now, I'm on SEOPA this year and next, so I can't enter that one. Maybe I'll step up and compete with you in TOWA this year since I'm not helping with EIC anymore.

You should. Contests are way more than just a check and plaque. They can be an inducement to other writers to both enter and strived to be better writers.

I'll never forget the OWAA convention in Maine. A guy I never heard of saw my award winner badge and said. "I enter every year and have never won a thing. I am sure it is fixed."

Toby Bridges was standing there and he said, "It is fixed. Only the better writers win. It is that way every year. They need to give awards for poor writings ome time."

It went right over the guy's head.

I really got into it early in my writing career, but I somehow lost that luvin' feelin'. Of course, I like the checks, but I never hung the plaques and even recycled the ones I could find a couple years ago. There are a dozen or so somewhere in a box of junk that I can't even find.

Okay-just did some quick math. Counted the awards I have won and averaged the checks to $85 average. I have cashed an estimated total of $13,260 in award money checks since 1987. That comes to almost $530 a year in extra income. I figger that is worth the effort.

However, I do have a lot of plaques in various closets :)
