Sent it at 0530 yesterday morn. Boated a 25in red by 0600 at sunrise on the rock jetties. Bigger than what I like to eat so I released him. Not enough salinity for trout to move back in yet, but water clarity is way better than last weekend.
These $2 Cotton Cordell Walmart floating jerkbaits have been perfect for the jetties. I replaced the tiny frail factory #6s for 2s on the front and heavier 6s on the rear. The extra weight makes them suspend perfectly. As long as you get them to dive slowly, you can usually bump the rocks without hanging up... and that seems to really trigger the reds to bite.
Seas were calm, so I went exploring some bayou mouths I have never been to working to the north hoping to find more salinity. Some promising areas, had a bull red blow up on a big topwater bait, but he missed it.
Back into the marsh hoping to find water clear enough to sightfish reds, but we arent there yet. I did get on a flounder bite on a mud flat in an eddy, but only boated 2 out of 5. Lost some more flounder at other spots, just couldnt stick them using a medium light power rod to be able to throw a 1/8oz jig.
Back to the rocks and I picked up 2 more reds that were perfect eating size (19 and 21), so they went in the box. As well as another flounder.
Ended up catching 3 reds, 3 flounder (lost 6 more), 1 short speck.
Never felt hot, but I did a good bit of moving around with the big motor. Drank 6 16oz bottles water/ liquid iv, and water/ tomato juice during the 6h trip. 110d heat index.
