I found this really old cookbook from Germany in a bookstore my wife was in, the problem was it is written in German. However, being the sluthful guy I am, I called a guy I used to work with who is from Germany and he translated the book for me. Measurements are all metric, but the recipes for Venison sound great. Spicy Venison Stew, Fried Venison with taters(ok it doesn't say tater), Marinated Venison Steak with Hunter's Sauce, and Venison Strip with Venison Creme and Spaetzle(fancy word for long dumplings). Can't wait to try these out. I will update if anyone is interested.
 
Deer are farmed in Europe and venison is available in many restaurants.

One of the best steaks I ever had was a nice thick venison steak at a small restaurant in Malbun, Liechtenstein (just south of Bavaria, on the border between Switzerland and Austria).

Poser, I will scan the pages and can send them by e-mail. It's a lot of text to type. He actually found me last night an english version of the same cookbook from his aunt in Austria. He is having it mailed too me, should be here next week. I think it will be much easier to read. I will let you know when I get it. PM me your e-mail and I will be glad to scan you the recipes.

Yea I know. Raising a trophy deer is no different than raising a trophy Bull or prize rooster IMO. I have absolutely no problem with deer farming...until the "hunting" takes place. I can easily see how trying to grow trophy deer(a.k.a. QDM) can be a very entertaining hobby.

...no intent to hijack here(my apologies to huntinseymor) I am not going to respond anymore on this off-topic. If someone wants to continue it elsewhere that is fine.
 
First deer ribs I every ate were at a little gasthaus near the base my second tour over in Bad Hershfeld, Germany. They had some sort of sour cream like sauce, they were so good.

11ACR guy?
 
I was. I was there when they de-activated and moved the regiment to Ft Irwin, I got sent to Ft Bliss, 3ACR. As a matter of fact I met the my best friend who talked me into moving to Tennessee there.

I was there 88-90 first time and 92-94 my second. My first wife was German I can only miss it so much, but it was definitely a beautiful country.
