I dropped seed last week with 2 days of rain that never showed up. Think my seed is fine? May have to wait and see what germinates after this rain and top sow wheat if it comes up weak. If it never germinates, will it be ok? Or will this heat burn it up before it gets a chance to?

Seed will keep in dirt just as good as it will in the bag, just as long as birds & turkeys don't get to it....

Yep. You are good to go. I broadcast and cultipacked 1600#s of rye on September 15. Not a drop of rain since. It will all pop come next week [emoji943][emoji943][emoji943]

We got a 1/4" or so out of a pop up storm last night. That was a pleasant surprise since it's been close to 50 days without a measurable rain event.

Got close to 20 acres done Friday and Saturday. I'll be blowing brown crusties out of my nose for a week. Looks like some rain came through down there this morning.

Got 4.5+ inches of rain here in Decatur County. May be too late for the radishes planted three weeks ago when we had false hope for some rain at that time. And may be too much for the oats and wheat that went in the ground on Thursday. I wonder if the seed stayed put or slide down the slopes in the runoff. Drought or flood - can't seem to get anything in between.

Well, looks like I'm gonna be ok. What seed I could find looked like it was sprouting this afternoon. Hope it's not to late now. Maybe it will be a late frost

I actually had a decent stand of wheat and clover from seed planted 4 weeks ago that got one rain on it. The ungerminated seed was still there, hopefully this latest rain helps that come on. We don't have enough turkeys to worry about losing seed to them anymore.

I got mine out on 10/4 and we got over 4" of rain 10/6 and 10/7. I'll be checking it on 10/18. It will be kind of a love-hate relationship with the weather from here on. I'll be praying for cold temps the first three weeks of November, but not too cold for the food plots to get somewhat established :roll:

I have had a good weed kill since August. 10/5/19 I spread 200 pounds of rye grain, 150 pounds of wheat, 50 pounds of crimson clover and two pounds of daikon radish. On 10/6/19 I cut the dead weeds on top of the seed and then got 4 inches of rain that night. Checked it yesterday and appears to have decent ground contact but it did puddle up the seed a little but not too bad most places. Will see if the stm method works for me. First try at real food plots.

You should be good with germination of those seeds and that method of cutting and putting that thatch right on top of the seed. Rye grain, wheat and crimson clover will grow just about anywhere. I usually always have those in my mixtures. I drilled seed and it sat in the dirt for 7 weeks with no rain. Pics showed turkeys, crows and a million other birds getting the seed (for almost 2 months!!) - even armadillos digging everywhere for it. So, I actually sowed the remainder of the seed right on top of the thatch, and I suspect the rain beat it down in there good to the soil. I'm not worried about it.

Let's post updates later on - it will be interesting because it will be such a short growing season before first frosts

That's a spot a bunch of pines blew down. It buried my salt lick and nearly got my camera. Just trying to take advantage of the situation. I just pulled the cam because I can't get in there to check it without the whole thicket knowing.

I was regretting not blowing it out first but I think it'll do alright. I had over 200 pictures in about 17 days.
