Garden 2016

Garden 2016 day 1. 18 heads of red and regular Romaine Lettuce, 1 tomato, 1 Jalapeno, 1 sweet/hot pepper, various herbs and Blackberry.

Will put in more tomatoes some okra,squash, peppers and a few other veggies next week.

Looking good. I'd be careful of potential frost in the next few weeks but looks like it would be easy to cover up.

Looks to be 40 inches wide and close to 30 feet long.

This is room for a LOT of plants.

How you going to stop the lettuce from bolting??? Its gonna be like 105 degrees in Memphis in two or 3 weeks.

Serious, the picture is looking south? The plants are going to get a lot of sun right?

Oh well I am just jealous, wish I was tilling and planting.

Its 4ft by 60ft...the picture only shows the south end of it...looking south. We had way too much produce the last 2 years. I plan on planting about half of what I have in the past...and spacing them so my garden doesn't become an unmanageable mess(again).

As for the Lettuce. We will just eat it until it gets bitter, then compost what is left. Maybe plant some okra in its place for the hotter months.

I can't wait til May to set mine. Good luck with the lettuce. I put turnips out for greens and winter cover and they started bolting 3 weeks ago with the warm weather. Doubt I'll get any good spring carrots because of it either.

I have actually NEVER taken a single bite of lettuce I planted myself. Bolts every time. Broccoli is even more sensitive.

Plus I always have to get rid of the nasty little white bugs that hide betyween the lettuce leaves.

We had good luck with it last year...first year planting it.

Headed south out of Indio CA on the east side of the road you can see row upon row of lettuce, each row miles deep headed to the mountains and the field is miles long. On the other side of the road, date palms with the dates all wrapped in brown paper bags.

Those two juxtaposed used to make my day on the way to shoot some geese's.

Tomatoes are a little behind but I'm impressed with the Lettuce so far.
