Hey guys, its been quite a while. Some of you may remember me, most probably wont.

Hey BSK, Are you still getting bad reports on the new Cuddyback cams ??

I have some old units still in use and bought some new ones after the flood. In your opinion, what is the best cam out there ?? We have 8 cams in service now, but need another 8-10. BSK, the deal is going through on the property, if u know what I mean !!!!

Ill keep up with my friends here from now on. Its been a long absence, but Im back ! May even get Stick'N'String back on here !!

How much are you willing to spend is the question.

And I know what BSK will say..."Friends dont let friends buy Cuddeback" :D . I'll have to agree on every model made after 2005
 
The very best cameras for the money are the Reconyx Hyperfire series. However, they will run you $500 for the red-glow and $600 for the black-flash (and I highly recommend the black-flash).

Other than the Reconyx and BuckeyeCam brands, which are both very expensive, I have a hard time recommending a commercial trial-cam. The odds of getting a bad one right out of the box, or having it develop problems the first season of use, are too high for me to recommend any of the cheaper commercial units.

Ditto!
When they say "see what you've been missing" they mean it. That is probably the most accurate advertising slogan I have ever heard. While I'm not going to recommend another camera I will say my Moultrie's have been my second most reliable camera's as far as not breaking down. They will not take any where near as many pictures as the Reconyx but the failure rate is lower than other China junk I have bought. My biggest problem with them is display failure.
 
I guess I am one of the lucky ones. I'm with Football Hunter regarding the D50. Mines been flawless and I am still shocked at the battery life I get out of it.

I also got a couple of cheapo WGI cams that have not crapped out yet (going on +1 year).

Amen on the battery life,mine have been out for at least 6 weeks,still show 95% or more on batteries.
 
I just had an old Moultrie die over the last week. Its just quit triggering for the most part, and when it does take a pic it doesnt write it to the card or internal memory anymore. Oh well This particular one worked for over 5 years before dieing!

If you got 5 years out of a trail-cam, consider it a GREAT unit you got your money's worth out of.

Most of my homebrews I bought years ago are dying. Got about 5 years out of each one.

I know you use Reconyx. How old is the oldest one you have still running and have you retired any yet? I would think with their customer service they would still be worth fixing.

My oldest Reconyx is 4 years old and ticking along just fine. Never a glitch. [knock on wood!]
 
Our 4 moultrie cameras have run without flaw for 3-4 years, the trigger speed isn't great.we've been shocked at how good they've worked especially considering they were all under $100 after tax!

That seems odd, as I only have a few but this is the first to die at 5 yrs old. While they are a cheap cam, with terribly slow trigger speeds, they take decent pics most the time, in the right setting.
Most people agree they are very slow, but generally last quite a while.
I wont be buying anymore due to the trigger speed, I think some homebrews are in my near future!

You've had better luck than me with Moultrie cameras. I have bought 2 and both each quit working before checking them for the 2nd time. That was about 4 years ago and was enough for me to never buy any of their products ever again.

Reconyx's on the other hand are great! I have had one for 3 seasons and 1 for 1 season and havent had a glitch at all to this day from either on of them. (knock on wood) :)
 
I either have been very lucky or I baby the h#ll out of mine. I have only had to replace one Snapshot Sniper control board (homebrew) on all of my cameras since 2005. Knock on wood and keep my fingers crossed. I own 2 Bushnells (worst ones I own), 2 Cuddeback C3000s, 2 Moultrie I40 (2007 models - very important), 1 Reconyx and 4 Sony P41 homebrews. Yes, I love tinkering with trail cameras. :)
