FYI...sst recoveries

THought I'd share pic of two bullets I recovered from a buck and a doe this past weekend. Knight 45 cal, 100gr 777 pellets, 200gr. hornady sst's. Probably shot 25 deer with this bullet and these are the first two to not exit. I know both deer died, and thats the goal, but it was odd, I've never had bullets lodge, and all the sudden it happens on two consecutive deer.

Bullet on left, 89 yds. Dead center shoulder perfectly broadside. Bullet under skin on off side center shoulder. Deer dropped for about 90 secs, then ran 50yds and died. Not one single drop of blood!!!!!
Bullet on right, 40 yds. Slightly quartering to me. Point of shoulder entry, lodged under skin offside just behind shoulder. 10 yd recovery. For the bullet gurus, how would you rate the bullets as far as "performance"

Very good. 23 passthroughs and 25 dead deer out of 25 shots is darn near perfect.

I shoot the same bullet and have had similar results as you. Most of the time they are pass thru but I have recovered 3 out of about 15. Always under the hide on the far side after passing thru both shoulders. I think the meat slows the bullet down more than bone does because I've shot right thru two ribs and still had it exit on a double lung shot. I still prefer the high shoulder shot due to no tracking needed.

That's the bullet I'm going to be sighting in tomorrow and trying blackhorn instead of 777 pellets and 223 powerbelt.

shot a deer with the same bullets and powder tuesday. there was no pass through and not alot of blood. he went about 75 yards. i hit alot of bone thats why i thought it didnt exit.
im still happy with the bullet.

bullets not passing all the way through is a good thing. That means 100% of the energy of the bullet was transferred into the deer... none lost means a good thing...

I killed a 7 point opening day at well over 100 yards with the SST bullet. Entrance was behind shoulder at top of heart and exit was through top of off shoulder. Complete pass thru. 100 grains of 777 loose. Love these bullets.
