Seen these were posted today from this past weekend sale

I couldn't make it to the auction, I me groenwold on i40 in Lebanon.. got $24 for nice put up otter..,and $8 for nice put up coon.. also got 6,4,2,and 1 for coon also.. lol
 
I haven't been to a sale for the past few years but I'm gonna try to make it next year . I sold to groenwool the past few years during the beaver boom and done fairly well , but I don't want to give my cats away . Didn't set but 4 traps around the house this year but after seeing FHA sale today I think I will ship a few cats to the June sale . That's if I can get ahold of my shipping agent .

It's weird that fur still goes for high prices when we have farms for all of these animals.

You clearly made the right decision to ship those and I am glad that it paid off for you!
I did not trap this year. Last year I sent several red and gray fox to FHA and a couple of coon. After shipping and fees, I could maybe buy a cup of coffee. A few years ago I met Groney with a similar offering and had about $60. Once the Russian war is over and their economy (hopefully) stabilizes, maybe we will see a return to decent fur prices.
I for one will not throw away good fur. If I trap it and the pelt is decent am putting it up regardless of the market.
The loss of NAFA has been unfortunate for trappers. A lot of guys don't realize that it was not the low market that put the nail in the coffin. They went bankrupt because they speculated on fur by offering advances. Advances were given in masse when prices were decent, and then NAFA became holders of bad loans when prices receded, and NAFA became holders of bad debt. The banks called the loans and NAFA went bankrupt.
 
Readonly Did you have at NAFA when it went under ? I had a few cats, red and grey foxes and a few coons that I never received payment for .
 
I had a few pelts there when it went under but not many. The last season I ran a long line was 13-14. I had a few fox and beaver up there when the banks took over. They sold everything private treaty and on certain dates they would issue checks. If you had over $5, or some number like that, they would issue a check. If under the amount, they would just keep it. As the last pelts of mine sold off one at a time I would either get a small check, or no check if under the minimum amount. Sad deal.
 
I am not a trapper but I heard guys talking about coons bringing $25 at one time. I had an Uncle who trapped mainly muskrat in the marshes in Cameron Parish Louisiana back in the 1940's. Trapping was a big deal back then. I remember an otter pelt was worth $75 around 1970.
