Full length sizing vs. neck sizing

If shooting out of the same gun, why would I want to use a full length sizing die vs a neck sizing? What are the advantages and disadvantages of both?

for hunting rig I would rather have a fL die adjusted to just barely touch the shoulder,,,works very well in a varmint rifle also,,the neck sizer may be a tad more accurate and the brass should last longer,,

If you are using your own brass and the same gun neck sizing is all you should have to do. If the brass was once fired out of someone elses gun it is form fitted to their guns chamber, hence the need to full length size back to an OEM size or standard size.

I always full length size brass that I buy once fired or used. After it is run through my gun, neck sizing is it. It is form fitted to my chamber.

Now, I mark and label all my reloads as such. That way is someone wants to buy a box of reloads I have, I don't sell them my once fired for their gun. I sell them full length sized cartriges.

accuraccy in my guns with a fl die adjusted properly is on par with a neck die,,and functions much better,,it just doesnt last as long,,,

neck size only for 4-5 loadings on a hunting load and you will run into feeding/extraction problems..

It really depends on the rifle. If you are loading for a bolt or pump gun then go-forth and prosper with neck sizing. IF you are loading for a semi-auto then you MUST FL size to ensure proper function!
Even with my bolt guns I prefer to Full Length size with a small-base die as I get better results on paper than with neck-sizing. My loaded rounds are for a few different rifles but I get sub MOA groups in each with all rounds loaded with a Small-base Full Length sizer. Took time to get it right but SB size is the way to go!

Good advice on the Small Base Sizer.
Found it best to use one with the autos we have worked with and they come in handy for resizeing pick up brass.

Like MR.Big for my bolt guns I use a fl die and back it off a little. Kind of a hybrid form> part neck & full size.
