Fruit trees-do they matter?

Over the last year I have spent a pile of money on soft mass trees. Sometimes I have to ask myself does it really matter and is it really worth it?

What is your reasons and how do you and the deer really benefit?
 
Considering the volume of food produced by fruit trees, I'm not sure there is a huge benefit for the deer health-wise. However they add to the total "attactiveness" of the property and make good bow-season hunting spots.
 
It adds value to your place. Gives the deer and other critters somewhat of a food source.

Only downfall IMO is the bee's. Seems like we have ethier bee's or them hornetts every year.

Agree 100% and I am right there with ya in fighting the deer for the fruit
 
Just personal satisfaction leaving the place better for the next generation. I planted 300 , apple, pear, pawpaw trees in 3 different states last year on property we own and hunt.

If I could re-do one thing when we first got our property, it would be to plant ALOT fruit trees from the get-go. That would be my #1 recomendation to anyone that recently purchased some property
 
Worth every penny. You can have great food sources from June-December if you plan it all right. The deer benefit from staying on my place eating fruit instead of being somewhere else getting slaughtered and I benefit by eating fruit, watching trees grow, watching deer, and maybe shooting one every now and then. Im sure everywhere is different but there arent many fruit trees here and if you have a good orchard, you will draw deer for miles around.

I have second guessed my pursuit of planting so many sawtooths and the like. When I first started I had several people say within 3-5 years you would see nuts. I am finding out that 10-20 years is a little more realistic. Fruit trees will produce a heck-of-alot faster.

Only have room for seven more trees in my Tree plot. :(

I've planted about a hundred fruit trees and every year seems I find or make a place to plant a few more lol. I'm addicted. Anyway the way things are going a person may have to rely on them someday, I'm even thinking of digging a root cellar up a hollar.
 
I have hear there is some tree places down in Mcminville that has some good deals on fruit trees. When is the best time to plant them.

best time is in the late fall,but I had good susess last spring,but who knows if we will have a wet spring again,and summer,I only watered my new trees twice all last summer,they did great
