Now is the time to slip off and raid your neighbors garden for the last of the green tomatoes. If they are anything like mine, they are sick of tomatoes and are letting them rot on the vine by now.
I made some the other night that where very tastey.
Take 3 seperate bowls. Put flour in the first one. One egg and some milk in the next. Corn meal, bread crumbs, salt, pepper, and red pepper in the 3rd.
I know its kind of a pain and probably no one else does it but I peel the skin off the tomatoes with a vegatable peeler so everything sticks better.
Dip the tomato in the flour then the egg wash and then the corn meal mixture and fry in oil.
I served this the other night with a venison back strip which I coated in horseradish and dijon mustard and seared in a cast iron skillet and then popped in the oven on 400 until it was medium rare. I let it rest 5 minutes and then sliced in thin slices. While it is was resting, I deglazed the pan with some white wine and added a little more hosreradish and dijon mustand to the sauce with a slash of cream and thinkened it with corn starch. Poured the sauce over the meat and a little on the tomatoes.
