I got impatient about not having my RRA A4 to play with so I am goin tomorrow to take out a loan to pay my A4 off tomorrow when I go to lunch.


Im all giddy about gettin my new toy tomorrow :grin:
Just gotta throw me a cheap scope on it for the time being cause I wanna get some range time in. Then after I have the money Im gonna get a red-dot or good variable power scope. I found a NcStar 1.5-6x40 for $114 somewhere so thats probably gonna be whats goin on it later.

That scope wouldn't work too well on a flat-topped AR. The reason being the ring-spacing is too small. I'm speaking of the distance allowed by the scope to affix the rings. Click on the link and you will see minimal area for the front and rear ring. The eye relief of the Hammers scope requires 2.7-4.3" The limited area of the A4 rail and minimal ring spacing of the Hammer "rilfe"(mispelled intentionally per the item desc) will cause eye relief troubles throughout the power range ;)

Thanks for the pic as it shows exactly what I spoke of...you have a very small ring area to affix a scope to a very short rail on the upper receiver to get the right eye-relief...I figure that is why the stock is extended all the way :) I'm 6'3" and my collapsable stocks fit best at 1 position from fully extended! The optic sits way too high to get a proper cheek-weld and good eye alignment. How about showing us some groups fired with said scope. I'll work up some pics on how to properly set-up your AR's when your budget can afford it :D One my my buddies once said buy it cheap and you'll end up paying three times for it...the first time to buy the cheap piece of crap that doesn't work...twice the price of the crap more when you decide to replace the piece of crap :D
 
Thats what I'm looking for,a guiding hand with these things. Hunting rifles no problem but with these AR's I'm like a fish outta water.
How do you get a scope lower so that the front site don't get in the way? Like I said me and the boy are doing a learning thing here.
 
The correct way to get an AR scoped isn't cheap by no means.Depends on application of rifle as to which optics will work.Trijicon,EOtech or Aimpoint are good options or maybe even the Leupold Mk 4 CQ/T.I haven't seen an AR with a regular type of scope on it that really works for me because of the eye relief and height issues,but I guess they can be made to work.

How do you shoot that with the scope so high? I topped mine off with an Armalite one piece mount and a Zeiss Conquest 1.5-5x38. Nice and low to get a good cheek weld on the stock. The front site can barely be seen only on the lowest power.
 
I would like to put a Pentax on mine but now,I'm wondering how?
My sons is for going to the range maybe a yote or two.
Mine may go to the range once in awhile but for the most part it will be ready to go close at hand if it needs to be. Maybe I just need an iron site.

Usually the front sight base will 'ghost-out' with good optics. That is the Front sight base will cause minimal distrotion through the optic at its lowest setting. If you mount the weapon and acquire a good sight picture the FSB will only appear after you tilt the rifle. The weapon will still be zeroed as long as you keep a perfect-circle sight picture through the glass but the FSB will appear as a minor shadow. Drawing down on a song-dog or rapid fire for fun it may cause some distraction. A true red dot like an Aimpoint is a good option as the ML2 and such aren't magnified. I shy away from the holographic EOtech...they are well built and serve a purpose...just not my cup of tea.

Nice rifle there buddy! I chose against the TA01-NSN and went with the TA31F. I wanted the dual illumination and the chevron to look the same in all light. I also use a Vltor stock and A.R.M.S. bi-level SIR and #40 BUIS! How do you like your Beta mag? Mine sucked and I traded it real quick! Looks like you mounted a KAC VFG? I'm surprised that you didn't mount a vortex instead of a phantom?
 
Thanks firefox,I had the TA31 on my Colt but I got bored with it and wanted something different so I went with the NSN.Beta mag is ok just a little heavy and expensive to feed but I like t have a couple laying around "just in case".It was a rush build and I got to impatient to look for a 14" bbl with a permantly attached vortex,but its on my "to get" list.

No front sight base is an excellent option when considering magnified optics on an AR! A good back up iron sight(front or rear is just a step-up). My only AR without a front sight base wears a PRI flip-up front sight gas block :) I am considering a low-profile gas block with a railed fore-arm that has a flip-up front sight that won't interfere with magnified optics.

I understand the want to get a build built and take it to the range ;) The NSN in the pic doesn't use a TA51 mount...what is it and how do you like it?

So whats the basic set up I should be looking for to put say a 1.5x8 scope on mine. The things I have collected so far is a LaRue quick disconnect with Nightforce rings. Do I need like a longer rail or something?

With variable powered magnified optics you will unquestionably run into eye-relief issues. I'm not saying that magnified variable powered optics are bad! With a flat-topped AR you have a very small area to mount any optic. With variable powered glass you have differences in eye-relief between each power setting. I'm fairly tall at 6'3" and with any AR I need a little more distance from the rear of the scope to the front of my eye. Yes you are correct in thinking that you will probably need a extended rail! My hat goes to the White Oak Armament model! It isn't as expensive as others of lesser quality! PLEASE look at the note below the link before clicking

Look at the left side of your scrren and click onto 'match rifle parts' then look for part number 4esr. The other good part is that it has 15MOA built in ;)
 
I just got my receiver back yesterday. I put a few rounds through it yesterday. Hopefully I can shoot it some tomorrow. The 11.5" barrel looks like its going to work nicely
