How the heck are you supposed to verify if they're 10" if the head doesn't even fit in the thing?

i dont have that problem, i eyeball it. i hold 10" in my hand everytime i take a piss so its pretty easy.

but i do have a rapala 60" under my livewell lid.

I think that one will make the mark, but i releaase the big ones. 11 to 13" are perfect

The Golden Rule is the only one I use.

I have one of thoe frabil things but i have never used it. Have a red berkley fish ruler i normally use

A 9 inch black crappie will not always go to the bottom so the nose touches. I wrote several tickets because fishermen did not check to make sure the fish's nose wasn't touching. Get a Golden Rule or a similar flat open ruler.

Just a friendly piece of advise from someone that has handled a "few" thousand crappie.

If the head won't fit it's probably a keeper, but I would verify with the old Golden Rule.
