I am a little. They are built pretty much on the '98 action, which is the best of the Mausers. They are in .308 and pretty strong actions. They're Spanish Military. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I've been doing a lot of reading on them since I posted. My father gave me one a while back that's in excellent condition and I wanted to maybe take a deer with it. I had a gunsmith check it today and he fired it with no problems. He used 7.62x51 Winchester 147 FMJ. I'm thinking about some 150 Core-loks maybe.

He said he might have paid $50 at auction back in the early 90's for it. I've seen them from $350 to $500 just doing a google search. Too bad he didn't buy a truckload.

If it was mine I wouldn't do anything to permenantly alter it. Either shoot it as is or you could put a scout type scope base on it with a long eye relief scope. These go on by removing the rear sight. You can always change it right back. I've got some older military rifles and love shooting them.

I don't plan on changing it. I really hate to shoot it but it is a cool little rifle. My father told me to sell it and buy something I wouldn't worry about since it isn't anything special to the family, just something he bought at an auction. He said someone would appreciate it more than we would and I know he is right... but its still cool looking.

I have looked at several online and this one is in better shape than any I've seen.
