Found Silver Treasure!

I have finally found some lost treasure. I was hunting in a city park, and what was ringing up as a nickel turned out to be a .925 sterling silver cross. Along with it came a Tungsten ring (was hoping for platinum) and a costume "Freedom" key. This was best best find to date. The treasure tides are a turning!

One of the cool new hobbies I want to pick up when I get there is metal detecting. When you find something like this, what's the rule? Finders keepers? Or do you have to turn it in to local PD/SD and do the whole 30 day wait thing? Asking in case I find something like this and take it to a pawn shop or whatever, don't want to end up charged with something

Basically finders keepers. But if you are on private land, it may belong to the owner. So it would be courteous to show it to them. Returning it if it is theirs.

Of course the rules are different on something like a gun. A modern gun it is best to report to the PD. An old relic, not so much.

Anything, like class ring, with a name to I D the owner, I would try to return it. I have also had people ask for specific things if I find them. One lady only wanted it if I found a coin made the year that her parents bought her place. Wouldn't you know it, the first thing I found there was a silver quarter made that year! Lol You might also be asked to help find lost items. I'm a member of the SCV and a lady who is a UDC member lost a medal at a memorial at an old cemetery. A friend and I went back a few days later with detectors and I found it just as we were about to give up. She was so happy to get it back.
