Someone around here sucks at aiming and tracking.. could be from road riders too. If only I could persuade people to let these deer grow. Between my neighbors about 15 bucks were killed this year. Only two mature-a 130 9 point & a 140ish 13 point. The guy that lets young bucks walk killed both.. imagine that. It doesn't bother me too much because I have the place my cam pics came from along with Natchez Trace to hunt instead but it'd be nice to see more mature deer behind the house.

Awesome finds! I need to go where you do evidently haha

Just walk near fields, creeks, and the most ideal place is a thickett near a field or creek. Ask for permission from neighbors if you don't have any of that.

Thank you. I've been looking in woods, I guess that's one reason why.

You are on a roll with the skulls, congrats on another good find.

I have found a few sheds as well as my biggest skull ever in the woods. Don't discount the woods, just gotta be where the bucks are I guess.

Yep, definately dont ignore the woods. Especially for sheds.. Every shed I've found was in hardwoods and the spike skull was too (it was near a creek too though).

open hardwoods with little ground cover is where I found some sheds during the summer of 2010

I have found shed in fields, woods, thickets, and even found one in a stream.
Way to go chief! I'm gonna have to get out and start looking soon.

I found one once in someone's front yard :D I may have told you already, can't remember. It was just down the street from your place.

I have found a few sheds in the past but I am still seeing most of the bucks around here (Hamilton and Rhea counties) are still carrying their gear with them. I'm gonna wait a bit and then try it.

Sheds are great! Skulls are not. Depressing photograph there.

Trust me, I'd trade them for sheds any day. It sucks knowing what could've been.. not that those skulls are big but none of them were mature either. Like I said, very few mature bucks on this property and the reason is obvious.

As I was leaving a few hrs ago I seen a big dog headed up the hill across the road.Grabbed the binos & seen he had a deer head.Wife asked if they might be mine?.Bailed out of the car & looked where I had buried a 7pt.:( gone & so was the dog when I got back to the car.His days are numbered

When we use "Nature" to clean our euro-mount skulls, we either put the head under a large bucket with rocks on top (and holes to allow free-flow of flies/insects), or actually wire or chain the skull to a tree. This keeps canines and foxes from carrying them away.
