I just changed my weekend plans. Was going to plant on Saturday when it looked like rain over the weekend and first of next week.

Sure would have been nice...now I'm going to have to run to the land after work one day, and drive back. Hello leaving house at 19 hour day!
 
On set drought pattern. Creeks around my area look like a trickling cesspool. Ground starting to crack. Dead leaves already falling.

Food plots aside, I guess the good thing is most oak trees have a deep root system.

Mine don't. They have very shallow but wide root systems. Our ridges are too rocky for roots to go down, so they spread wide instead. Unfortunately, with such shallow roots, the are highy susceptible to drought conditions.

could that situation effect acorns at this date?Seems like it would be done by now.
 
Now weather is saying 60% chance for Saturday the 3rd...I don't believe it. Even though that is opening day in KY I'll take ran if its going to do it for a day plus. Might be a long run to my property one evening to plant but I'm determined to get the seed in before the next good rain.

In my area, yes. A very dry late summer will prevent the acorns from maturing. What you will get is a "mature" shell, with no or a shriveled nut inside.

Can I get a guarantee on that??? LOL. I need to get some seed down this weekend! My food plot jobs are starting to back up on me waiting for rain.

Checked the weather this morning and they dropped it down to a 30% chance on Sat and then nothing else for the rest of the forcast.

The models have taken that Sunday/Monday rain right out of the forecast. Now it looks like the following Thursday. However, the models do predict a weak hurricane or strong tropical storm forming around Houston, TX late in the period, so maybe that will come our way.

People just think it's dry here. The Houston area has been bone dry most of the year.
 
Believe that there is a chance of a fairly good cold front moving thru next weekend (Sept 10'ish), which might help us as well. In the meantime we'll just continue to work on other stuff...Lot's of time left to plant.

Saw a report earlier this summer that the ag losses in that region have been the most significant in the past 40 years. I know that probably doesnt take value of the dollar into account but they are hurting.
