congrats on a nice buck, by body I say around 2.5. But you said you have picture of him from last year so I stick around 2.5.
but remember that the world record is only 4.5 years old, so it was due to habitat, food, and genetics. Nice buck
 
Im mounting a 156" Ft Campbell deer the biologist aged at 3.5. They did not cut the jaw and the hunter said the biologist simply opened the mouth and said 3.5, in a matter of seconds.
Unless the manager or hunter has a history with the deer I just take the age guess as a educated estimate.

The deer's live weight is 168 pounds!

According to TWRA data the average live weight of a Tennessee 1.5 year old deer is 107 pounds.

I'd say 107 1.5 yr dressed is right
Killed many that weighted that or more

was this in anderson county? cked 1 and 3 said 3.5 and 1 said 2.5 ,164lbs dressed think they listed it as 2.5 ,e tn dont get heavy til after 2.5 ,have shot a lot of 2.5 bucks 115-125lbs but I reckon it could happen just not around here for the most part

When I saw the title of the thread I was thinking that tooth wear aging has some subjectivity and is not an exact science. However, aging a 1.5 year-old is pretty clear-cut. Would you mind posting pics of the jawbone?

Please excuse my ignorance but I'm genuinely curious: why does it matter how old he was? To me, bigger deer means more meat for the freezer...
Is there another limit for age class?

TWRA likes to have the age for biological data, a lot of people do the same for their farms, I personally not shoot a buck unless I believe he is 4.5 or older.

There are very few 1.5 from this area that will see over 100lbs dressed weight ,food and nutrients means a lot

pic looks like a 2.5 y/o... but again, a 1.5 y/o is a piece of cake to age based on jawbone.... just post pics of it and we'll know for sure.

If live weight was 168 pounds he could very well have been a big 1.5 year old. Dressed weight would be approximately 125. But if you have pictures of this deer from last year post them

I'm agree and I'm just making the case that these guys should take everything available into account when aging. Tooth wear has been shown to be variable by diet, etc.

I've never seen a 170 lb 1.5 year old buck in Tennessee. Have you?

Aging deer beyond 2.5 years is less accurate than once believed as wear can be different for a variety of reasons. Aging fawns and yearlings is much more reliable because they have different teeth that those ages than at 2.5.

I'm not doubting you as you're obviously familiar with the buck, just curious about where the discrepancy is.
