Steve loved chasing Tarpon, and we spoke about the entire tarpon on a fly game often. This week I've been in the Keys and each one I duped into eating my fly I thought about him and his pursuit of them. Hope he's waging wore on them in the afterlife. Catching these beasts on a fly is quite an experience to say the least

3 fish out of the 7 I hooked in 3 days. Weather has been horrendous, 20-30mph sustained winds. Fish just aren't swimming as they should be due to the conditions. Still a great trip

Great tribute to Steve. He loved tarpon and they could be his Achilles heel as well. Congratulations on the fishing.

Interesting and not what I expected. I would have thought a heavier rod but I don't do saltwater so I'm pretty ignorant on the subject.

11 weights are a serious stick. They are really powerful and can handle tarpon or sailfish

Just go, I didn't travel to fish for a long time except to Montana and Oregon and finally started 12 years ago in the saltwater stuff. Yes it's expensive but dammit I'm not going to live forever and want these experiences

I use a 10 for stripers. Wears me out casting it after a couple of hours!

The nice thing about tarpon fishing is you're only casting when you see fish and they're within casting distance. So you're not cranking on a heavy rod hundreds of times a day.

The punishment comes after you're hooked up.

That area is hard to beat for Tarpon. It's amazing you got one in on the fly much less three. Very cool.

Fly was a chartreuse toad for all fish

The dang Chittums are costly, but dang do they ride nice and are extremely well built. Impressive boats

Chittum would be a dream... but paying for 3 kids college educations vs a skiff keeps me from pulling the trigger

Steve's boat was a " true work of art". An old Ranger skiff he truly brought back to life, my mechanic in Knoxville gave new life to the 90 HP 2stroke Yammie, outfitted the electronics and then Steve put a cage with a swivel chair contraption on it so he wouldn't fall off of it because he promised his wife he'd be safe in it!!!

I keep thinking about the fishing trips we were planning on this year….

It's too bad we've lost quite a few guys recently.

One of the last things Steve said I needed to get was this popper! I take early morning walks on the beach with interrupted casting and occasionally catching …. Well the winds and surf are starting to cooperate so … I ordered 3 more today , so Steve send me some jacks or big girl trout!!!
