Shot with a Hollow Point Powerbelt at about 75 yards. Double lung and heart shot with pass through on the opposite shoulder (through bone). Dropped where she stood. This is how every shot i take with this 295 grain HP Powerbelt goes unless i screw it up and miss the shot completely like this morning (but it had been 3 years since i shot at a deer with a gun, a little on edge).

Cool. It's funny how those PB's perform well for some. I used them for a while and they were always accurate.
 
Congratulations on the deer. I have killed deer with every bullet type I have tried in my encore. I just seem to get better accuracy out of sabots. The powerbelts and hornady fpb just do not group consistently in my muzzleloader.
 
I come to believe it's not the bullet, but what the gun prefers. It only makes sense since some bullets work great for some and the next guy says how Crappy it is.

I bet this is wear the manufacturer's accuracy comes in to play when boring the inside diameter of the barrel. The sabots having a plastic casing may seal off the gases better in your barrel and in mine just the plastic cup on the PW is good enough for my barrel.

I shot sabots for years had no problems never lost a deer. Then in 2012 I shot 3 deer with powerbelts didn't find one of them. Went back to sabots and hadn't lost one since.
 
I may have gotten a muzzleloader with a tighter cut bore, and the PW works great for me. For a looser cut bore I could see where people think the saboted bullets are far superior. I think the bullet encasing the entire bullet will give you a tighter (better seal) in a bore that is cut slightly above the nomial of a .50 cal. Just like with brand's of centerfire rifle bullets. Every manufacturer will get made slightly smaller or bigger for a given caliber as will the bore of the barrel per manufacturer. If you find a brand of bullets that match the diameter of your bore within .001-.003" you will believe that bullet is far superior to any other, but the next guy with a different brand gun may not get the same results.
 
Well I shoot 295 grain and it gives deer terminal illness. I have dropped them slightly over 100 yards. I don't shoot much passed 100 yards. So I dunno. I always get pass through and a dead deer. Exit hole is always bigger than entry so I know it's expanding. Or coming out sideways?
 
Oh and thanks for the congrats from everyone. Got the first deer in three years out of the way so maybe I will calm down a little bit.
 
Every deer I shot with them died. The only problem is that I didn't get many pass throughs so there was no blood trail (even though they dropped on the spot or didn't make it 50 yards). The potential is there to make an off shot that may kill the deer and him run with no blood trail. I just didn't want to possibly face that knowing it on the front end.
 
I believe you if you say that was a pass through, but I don't see an entrance or exit hole on the right side of that deer. But congrats on the deer.

And, out of fairness I must say that I am a powerbelt naysayer and a big fan of Barnes, but today I shot a buck quartering away at 100 and the bullet hit the offside shoulder and didn't pass through. It broke the bone but no exit hole and the blood trail was not fun. But I have found that to be the exception with Barnes.
 
The entrance and exit hole are at a weird angle almost like she was underneath me. The side you see in The pic is The entrance side. Kind of a high top shoulder shot. The exit side passed through the bone in the other shoulder. I checked the lungs both had holes and the heart was destroyed
 
I shot a 5.5 yr old buck yesterday perfectly centered on the point of his front shoulder as he was quartering to me with a 300 grain platinum powerbelt at 20 steps. I did not get a complete pass thru but the bullet was between his rib bone and the skin just barely breaking the skin on his exit side. I could literally stick my fist in the entrance side hole of his chest cavity where the bullet impacted his front shoulder. Every deer I've shot with these platinum power belts have either dropped or made it less than a 100yds.

Shot two does over the weekend with 300 grain acculite PB's. 100 gr pellets. One doe dropped, the other had a glob od blood where I shot here and she went 30 yrds. Both pass thrus. 15, and 40 yrds.
My cousin on the other hand, shot a platinum 100 grn of pellets at a big 8 pt, and only had a few spots of blood at 20 yrds. Deer ran off. The limped away. I think he hit it in the leg. Spotty bright red blood. Hope he lives another day- couldn't find him...
 
Man ive read all the bad reviews and heard a lot of lost deer with powerbelts, but man ive killed several deer with them. Ive been fortunate, havent lost one yet. RH

Heres my first story with them ....lol .First tome hunting with a mz. yesterday had an 8 at 20 yds shot him BOOM he flinches and hauls but down the ridge looked and looked no blood so tracked his direction and found him about 150 yds down ridge was a couple inches left of his heart broke his leg and no blood at all only damage was broke shoulder and a couple holes in his heart At 20 yds i was lost on how little damage wasn't the best shot(off hand) but was sooo worried i missed lol 100gr of pellets,any thoughts would be helpful!
 
Not sure if it's the powerbelts or the make of the gun shooting them. I can attest to the fact that they don't shoot well in the three Knights I've tried them in. I'd be shocked if the velocity was 1,000 fps. It's the only bullet I've ever heard hit the target well after the shot at 100 yards. If they work in your muzzleloader, shoot'um.
 
I believe it's the gun...my CVA Buckhorn shoots them very well. And I have yet to find a deer to even take a step after being hit with the 295 grain hollow point. Unless of course I miss completely.
