foodplot question?

I have several food plots that i have been planting for about 5 years now,they were planted aug 20 just before the rain hit and they are doing great.I have planted some late season plots on another lease and the deer are eating them down faster than they can regrow(due to rain shortage)these plots are over an acre in size. My question is when is it to late to reseed the plots and how will the cold weather affect the new growth?? there is only a slight chance of rain next week,i have never had to work on my plots this late.

they are planted in bfo,clover,chicory,winter peas,brassicas

I have successfully seeded cereal grains (wheat/oats) and cool-season annual clovers as late as the third week of October.

thanks for the info.can i just overseed the bfo and chicory on my existing plots? i know the oats normally need covered but the deer have the soil torn up pretty good.

The largest farm operators here, over 10,000 acres combined at last count, dont even plant their winter wheat until Nov.....that is late if you want the deer to eat but it can be done, not rec. though.

I broadcast top-seed all my fall plots. Germination isn't as good but it works. You just need to overseed by 50% (to account for lower germination rates) and limit planting to small-seeded plants, like clover, rape, and cereal grains.
