I hunt a place that is in the Quail CRP program. It's basically a grassland type CRP that has two 16'x1200' food plot strips that must be planted in something beneficial to quail. The list has everything from clover to millet to corn to beans. There is a cotton field to the north, beans/corn to the west and south with an abundance of oak trees everywhere. I can plant summer or winter or both if I choose to do so. This will be the third year in the program and the wild green stuff is starting to get choked out. I think we disc a third of the field every year starting at year 5, which will help bring the green back. This is in Fayette county and deer health is not an issue. I have killed a buck each year of the program and both had a great deal of mass. Any suggestions on what to plant to hunt over and hold the deer in the field during season?
