on the wings of a snow white dove
burn down area with roundup, about 10-14 days before plant time

mix 3 oz. roundup per gallon water, shot of dawn dishwash in mixture will help stick to grass/weeds better.

once you get the desired kill, sow/broadcast seed on top of ground. you can also roundup again any areas missed from first roundup application.

apply fertilizer

mow or weedeat area to knock down all dead weeds/grasses

drag area with chain link fence or small tree top.

many people in my area have had great success with this, especially if seed size is winter/cow pea size or smaller

its fast,easy, very little equipment needed, and it works
 
Yep, that is a recipe for success on any budget. I have the best success with wheat and have homemade a aerator roller to press the seed down and have had great success this past fall!!!
 
we did about 1/4 acre the same way last fall, i was trying to prove to a guy that he did not have to kill himself getting it done, we are lucky and are on good fertile soil, we burnt down with roundup, 7 days later sowed fall biologic[i think] and drug it down with 4 wheeler and small tree top, got lucky and 1/4" rain as we were finishing dragging, 4 days later, food plot growing, juveniles hunted the wax out of it, they had a ball of fun
 
That sounds great. Everyone has theyre own expectations in what they want out of a food plot. Sounds like you hit the nail right on the head with your idea. Good luck in the future and happy hunting...especially those youngsters :)

If i can ever get to downloading pics on here i plan to show phases of the fields i do with my 400 yamaha, tuffline atv 52" disc and the new purchase of the 4x8 drag matt from Tractor supply. I have a homemade roller/aerator. and a rear mount spreader as well as a 52" pull behind swisher mower. I have been accumalating this material for 4 years and slowly i have been able to get the necessities to make it somewhat manageable. I also have a 10 cu ft dump cart for hauling the lime to the difficult to reach fields. This coupled with a few members in our club who are willing to put in the time has made this club a great place to be. Anyone who is willing to put the time in is in fact able to make a "difference" in wildlife management! You wouldnt believe what i have accomplished with small size material, you would have had to see it. But it works. Thanks chaneylake for sharing and keep it up!!! Hope the youngins follow in the footsteps of giving back!
 
gonna create some simple food plots this year with lots of photos, hopefully some will get some benefits out of them, we are in a good soil area, all we really need here is some moisture thru the summer, thats why i like soil temperature as my #1 factor in starting, if ya stay on the front edge of soil temperature, you can usually start earlier and benefit from late spring rains
