Food Plot Question??

I have a lease in McNeary Co Tn. We have palanted simple food plots with wheat and clover. Having some success, but they do not seem to get the use we expected. What is the most effective type of food plot for this area. Note, we usually have either corn or soy beans planted on part of the lease that is farmed, but we have very few white oaks.

I am farmiliar with south west Tennessee
It's hard to compete with soybeans and corn, plus it will depend on your natural browse as well cover around your plots.
What I can tell you is we have always planted wheat, oats, rape, red, crimson, ladino & white clovers and done real good.

Lots of mast this year in alot of areas,. food plot usage is down. Which,.. is not a bad thing. More food for the later months.

Remember,. its not what you plant,.. its the nutrient from the plant the deer crave. If your ph level is not good,.. deer are not gonna be on it as much. Oats are awesome ,.. but compare usage of a plot of oats with a ph of 5.5 to a plot of oats with a ph of 6.5. You will see the difference!!
Always soil test!!

If you have corn and soybean in the area,.. you may be better off with just fall/winter annuals. A good plot of oats and brassicas may be your thing there.

I have been checking stomachs the last few days of deer kills and there are some acorns still being consumed and alot of honey suckle , cat green briar and sumac pods among many other seeds etc......
