I know food plots are important for marginal land and it's resourses, but what would be the ideal land senerio where a food plot wouldn't be needed. No agriculture for miles, in this hypothetical situation.

Regular timber cutting in small patches scattered around, regular prescribed fire maintaining open spaces. just some ideas

A very mixed habitat of different aged forrests,but with no ag for miles,a food plot would be really hot in late season for sure.

I would place food plots as the LEAST important habitat management tool to implement. Good natural food sources and thick cover are far more important.

setting up a 100 year timber rotation plan where you always have sections in different stages of growth (new cuts with a lot of food, older cuts with a lot of cover and mature timber with acorns, etc.) This also creates a lot of soft edges. We have 5, 20 acres sections that were cut last summer and this year they are basically 20 acre food plots that also provide cover. I think foodplots would be of the most benefit when low temperatures have killed most of the browse in the cut areas.
