What is the best fertilizer to put on a food plot that hasn't had a soil sample on?How much per acre? Can the fertilizer be put on it after the seeds have been planted by a week? Thanks
Reason I ask is that ive had a food plot in a field every year for the past 5-6 years, always have plenty of deer in the plot during huntin time and I have never put one ounce of fertilizer down..My son has shot several there.Anyway,I have no way of judging how much difference fertilizer can make and what good it would even do.Im gonna get a few bags and put it in that spreader and see.
Broadcast it on half and put up some cages to see the difference. Forage plots will still perform ok without a lot of fertilizer if properly managed otherwise, but they will not yield as much, and forget trying to grow a decent grain crop without it.

I prefer 13-13-13, we use clover, white, and wheat. The clover stores nitrogen in its root system and the wheat benefits from taking it. Since white clover and wheat get consistently hammered by our deer it is a great combination.
