Ducks and Turkey are similar.When it rains they prefer fields and sunny timber.I would think that ducks get hot in the sunlight and hit the timber for shade.Only exception would be a major cold front.Got to be versatile!!

sunny is definitely better for timber but I like sunshine for all duck hunts. I believe ducks find thermal cover in the woods not looking for shade but to cut the wind off of them during cold windy days. it also helps drakes pair off hens in seclusion during January. Ducks don't like to finish in the timber on cloudy days but that is not a rule. I believe they see the universal reflection of clouds off the water and don't like it.

There is nothing like shooting mallards at 15 yards in the timber - they cant get out. Slow down, plant your feet, and get busy.

Ditto, we hit it right on Saturday. Hunted a small timber hole and had 5 mallard limits by 7:15am and were done, was back at the lodge by 8am, one of those once in a lifetime hunts.
