Anyone on ehere have one or have ever used one? I have been eyeing one on ebay but would like some more input before I pull the trigger..thanks!

Please excuse me if you're talking about something else, but the Flir I know about is a brand name. They are famous for making high quality thermal imaging equipment. We have a pretty nice one at work that cost $70,000. They make some spot radiometers tbat are pretty reasonablee, then the prices go up from there. Can you post the exact product you are considering?

Yeah I have seen what they can do it is pretty neat. The one I saw could be hooked up to video cam. When the guy turned it on back at camp and was showing everyone we saw a deer standing in the woods about 60 yards away perfect outline and body temps.

Used it a lot in the Marines, but never knew of a brand name. Stood for Forward Looking InfraRed and uses the "far IR" part of the spectrum. Worked great in the desert at night. The top layer of sand cools off and the sand underneath stays warmer. If somebody or a vehicle comes along and disturbs the top layer, exposing the warmer sand underneath, then you can see nice bright tracks for quite a while from the temp differential.

Ive used a handheld unit quite a bit in Iraq and a large mounted unit quite a bit on ranges. You can really pick up deer easily on the ranges with them, even tell what kind of antlers they have if they are in velvet. Those are some top dollar equipment though, not sure what your looking at.

Isnt being in possession of night vision equipment while big game hunting illegal???
probably so.. where in this thread did anyone mention hunting big game with one?

I have used the alot. As a matter of fact a rep at a trade show, showed me a trip he went hunting on and he took it to shoot areas while going into his stand so that he wouldnt jump any. It was early bow season and they were in bachelor groups. It looked like a dange family photo with biggest being 170 ish. It was awsome. But oh yea they are the best equipment IMO that money can buy.
