Flathead-yellow catfish

When is the best time to jug for flatheads is any bait better than a 1/4 to 1/2 lb bluegill?

I'll start getting the jugs out "Typically at the end of March" But this year I may start next weekend. With the Warmer than average weather we are having. I expect them to become active a little earlier than years past.

flatheads prefer live bait & we allways used bluegill,better have strong line & hooks,have had 250 staging broken & lumric hooks straightened out on norris with limb lines

I'd like to know where you can catch enough 1/2lb bluegill to bait jugs???

TNLynn we was fishing for rockfish on cherokee lake a few years ago & put 1 on that was at least 1/2lbs,caught a big largemouth in the 6-7lbs range,it lived to fight another day,i would not have thought a bass would eat that big a bluegill,we catch redear on norris that big but bluegill not so much

Some 8"-10" bullheads or channels work very well also.

ditto, I can't call myself catman and not have ever caught a flathead... same for blues.

Caught a 20 lb Flattie tonight on cut shad.

I do pretty good on blues but I've only caught one flathead ever
