Re: FL vs LSU

After learning 8 conference games are required to be eligible for the championship, the Gators had no choice but to make the trip.

Huge consolation. I still don't think the game will have any bearing on SEC east winner.

Re: FL vs LSU

They said on the Finebaum show that "if the teams didn't play they wouldn't go to Atlanta" so i bet that was the motivation to get it played.

You have to know that it was....but, think how much easier for all involved it would have been to just have played on Sunday like S.C & Ga.

Why in Baton Rouge now?
So the LSU players don't have to end the season with 3 road games. That's what they said. LSU's AD wouldn't agree to anything unless he had a home game nov 19

That is correct on LSU road games. LSU agreed to play next two in Gainesville.

Re: FL vs LSU

From my unbiased perspective, this debacle was all Florida's fault in an attempt to sidestep a tough football game, only somewhat justified by Hurricane Matthew. It was only when Florida was told they would not be considered for the SEC championship if they didn't play 8 SEC conference games that they got serious about rescheduling it. From everything I have read LSU made every effort to have the game played Saturday, Sunday or Monday at various locations.

And that was coming out of LSU. The SEC commisoner himself has pretty much came out and stated that LSU wasn't very flexible in these negotiations and praised UF/Foley. I will have to take the comminsoners word at it since I wasn't present.... :)

If course you will.

Nothing BamaProud or anyone else read means anything. Doesn't matter that LSU made every effort to play the game. Doesn't matter that every other college program in FL played their games. Doesn't matter that high school games were played in Gainesville Friday night.

Fact is the only thing LSU wasn't conceding to is giving up their 11-19 home date.

The ole High School game debate. How far did those fans travel across the state? 15 minutes at the most. How many emergency personnel or volunteers does it take to put on a H.S. game? Not many. Some parts of these debates make you Wonder.

The game being played during that weekend had nothing to do with the weather at the time. It had to do with the impact it had on the communities around the area and to have the personal to play the game safely.

I'm sure you guys don't know how many police officers it takes to pull of an event like that. At UT it takes about 200 + Leo to work stadium security and traffic for each game. I'm sure Leo had better things to do in those communities after the storm. Lots of communties East of G-Ville didn't have power for days. There's a little more involved than just teeing it up..... :)

Re: FL vs LSU

Look at the bright side. UF is now well rested and Del Rio is ready to play. You should send Sankey a Christmas card for that GnB. :tu:

Re: FL vs LSU

G-n-B, you my friend need to go to some Texas High School football games, they will travel to the end of the universe to follow their teams.. But you do have a valid point about the security and emergency workers.

Del Rio was going to start but LF, LSU's best player was out and will also miss this week. I'm thinking that debate doesn't hold water... :)

It was never about the weather at game time. It had more to do with logistics and being able to open the doors of the stadium. Even the college was closed and the students were sent home prior to the storm coming up the coast.

I'm sure you already know this but Texas is laid out a little different than FL. Texas is spread out and it might take you a hour to drive across a town or to the next county.... :rotf:

Im thinking LF is on cruise control the rest of the year and Guice would have shredded UF anyway. What about all of the rest of the guys UF had out with injuries? They were going to start too right?

Look. Holding water. :tu:

Not true, they said LSU made every effort to play, offered to fly in play game and fly out same day to keep out of hotels. Offered Sunday or Monday there or any location. They only became unflexible after Florida got their way and game was outright canceled.

I'm talking originally, when it was originally canceled, instead of postponed a day or 2 or whatever. It should have been played the weekend it was scheduled like every other game was played. LSU offered to fly on and fly out and play game Sunday or Monday, supposedly. That's what I'm taking about.

It's being played now so it doesn't really matter. Except I guess it cost the sec, or the insurance, or somebody a few million dollars to buy out the games.

Who was going to work the game in a day or two. I'm pretty sure that emergency personnel had other things to deal with. Theres a little more than just opening the gates. This has already been covered.
