fixed or expandable

anyone have an idea on what's the best broad head to use?i always have concerns on fixed because the way they fly I cant get them to do right.expandables work but issues when they don't open.any comments on this?would like to hear everyones opinion.

Spitfire and dont worry bout it. been shooting spitfire maxx for 3 years now. shots from 10yds to 45 yds and have always had pass through and uavent lost a deer yet with them. In 3 years ive taken 8 deer with them. Most of the time they run less than 40yds.

not being a jerk but your fixed heads should fly just like your field points, do some research on tuning your bow,your arrows and boadheads. nothing wrong with either type of heads long as you get good quality heads. personally i use rage and slick tricks if i can be of a help pm me and i will try to help you

not being a jerk but your fixed heads should fly just like your field points, do some research on tuning your bow,your arrows and boadheads. nothing wrong with either type of heads long as you get good quality heads. personally i use rage and slick tricks if i can be of a help pm me and i will try to help you

knightrider is correct . Mechanicals fly better for most people because their bow isn't tuned correctly . I hate to say this but most "Pro shops" push the mechanicals because they either lack the knowledge to tune the bow or they are too lazy to work with the customer .

A few things come in to play . What is your bow set up . What Bow are you shooting , arrow weight , head weight , draw length , draw weight , and spine of arrows to start . Some set ups it is almost impossible to get the kind of performance your looking for out of a mechanical head because of low kinetic energy .

Swackers for me....shot Rage for a couple of years and and their durability is crap and ive personally seen a rage hit a deer in the 10 ring and exit out other side of deer ......following week that deer grazed passed me with two holes in it.....must be luck idk.....after my first kill with the swacker i cant go back....through a shoulder blade and a rib and no bent blades sharpened it and reuse

The shooters form is important when shooting fixed blades. If the shooter has a lot of torque in their grip or poor form, the tendency of fixed blades to steer of course is magnified.

If you shoot pretty regular and are consistent, fixed blades are excellent choice. If you are a 5-6 time a year shooter and have no idea if your bow is tuned, shoot a conservative cut mechanical like Grim Reapers.

I've found Slick Tricks to fly the best of the fixed blades plus they are scary sharp German blades.

I shot muzzy's for years. Last year I tried the Killzone from N.A.P. and was very impressed. The Killzones will be in my quiver this year! I only killed 3 last year with my bow and they didn't run over 100 yards combined. All were double lung hits.

I just bought a pack of Hartcraft fixed heads. They fly great. They are 1 1/2 inch cut with lifetime ferrule replacement. Havent shot an animal with them yet but I pitty the one that gets shot with this head.

Been shooting Muzzys since the beginning, from 125gr. down and the only ones I had issues with were the 4 blades. Been using the 100 gr 3 blade forever with arrows fletched with 4 inch feathers to blazer vanes and weighing from around 420-380. Even my wifes 45# 26 draw bow with a 300gr arrow shoots em. If you try mechanical heads make sure you got enough arrow weight to make em open. Seems a light fast arrow doesn't let them perform as they should. Some of your problem with the fixed blade ones my be that you are putting torque on the bow causing the arrow to be squirrelly come out the bow. Remember that a fixed blades has more surface area than a mechanical or field point and any flaws in you form, draw cycle, etc will show up more. So start looking at how you are shooting before sending your bow to NASA to be worked on.

NAP killzones for me went to them last yr a buddy turned me to them and I love them shot 3 deer with the same head and is still sharp, and blades are holding up. 13 deer shot last yr, I shot 6 had one run over a 100 hit bad low but found at 250. Buddy shot 7 none went over 100.. fly just like a practice tip. but there are a lot of good ones out there my father is a slick trick guy wont try anything else never had a problem with them.

they now offer the maxx with the trophy tip. i never liked to cut on contact head bit used thwm anyway. gonna swith to the trophy tip this year.

During the dawn of the mechanical or expandable broadhead, they not were not much. All were prone to failure to expand. As with everything else, they were improved over time. Now, most of the products on the market work quite well.

I am forced to shoot a crossbow, I tried it with a variety of heads. At the time, I got them free so I was able to test several. For me, for my setup. I found the Muzzy 100-grain flew acceptable and killed acceptable. However, in the mechanical division, I came down to one head that out performed all others, fixed or mechanical. The NAP products all met my specifications. I shoot the NAP Spitfire and have for almost four years.

That is just me. I feel quite sure there are others that would also perform well. To date, I have shot 19-deer and three turkeys with NAP heads. All flew perfectly and opened perfectly. The longest blood trail was maybe 120-yards. Most fell within sight or within 50-yards leaving large blood trails and extensive damage both internally and upon entrance and exit.

As I said, that is just me. I do not work for or am compensated in any by New Archery Products. I buy my heads the same as everyone else.
