Fixed High Power Scope?

Never had one but thinking about getting one to top on a heavy target rig and possibly take on and off to work up loads in other rifles. Could I get a decent one under 1K? Fine crosshair and target turret needed. What magnification would be good for say 300-1000yds? I've seen a couple leupold competition scopes 35x on the swfa sample list for around $900.
 
Weaver t36 or the and don't look back. Plenty of used weaver t36's in the $350 range. Plenty of magnification out to 1000 (and more), or will focus down to 50' for your Rimfire. I've got several and they are excellent for the money. Id recommend the fine crosshair with the dot, the fch is very fine and sometimes gets a little hard to see in bright sun.

I was going to recommend the same thing. It is a VERY decent scope and well under $1K. Keep an eye on benchrest.com classifieds as it is not uncommon to get one for about $300. I have had two of them and they track wonderfully.

That is the one although I prefer the solid fine crosshair myself. But the dot on these is a lot smaller than other scopes. I guess you already know this seein as how you are from their area, but Natchez will not sell to TN residents......or shall I say will not ship to a TN resident.

You did see the word "cheaper", right? I would not expect to see a $300 scope on a custom competition rifle but I could be wrong. I don't frequent those events often.

You did see the word "cheaper", right? I would not expect to see a $300 scope on a custom competition rifle but I could be wrong. I don't frequent those events often.

You did read his original post, right? And FWIW, you won't see many $1000 scopes there either. But that wasn't his question.

The scope you referenced is woefully inadequate for the stated application. If he purchased the scope you are recommending he would be terribly disappointed. You simply cannot skimp on glass and expect good results. No offense intended, but he needs a quality piece of equipment for those distances.

GOODWIN, the Weaver T36 will serve you well out to 500 yards or so. At farther distances, they can be a bit fuzzy. Not all are that way, but it's a toss up whether you get one that is.
 
I have a 35x and 40x Leupold LCS with 30mm tube and side focus,you can find them used for 750-850,,and for what its worth I really like the fine cross hair without the dot better than with the dot,,it seems I can get a better aim point without the dot,,
