Fix to mechanical

Thinking about making the switch from slicktricks to rage 2 blade. A buddy of mine was saying some places in Illinois won't let people shoot rages because the deer are too thick. Have a hard time believing that. Thoughts?

Fixed or mechanicals are personal preference. I've been using rage 2 blades since 2007. Never had an issue. If you are using low poundage then you can see penetration problems. When I say low poundage I mean 225 f/s or less. I've seen women shooting 45 lbs have pass thrus with rage. I'm not saying mechanicals are the best but it's all about change. Most people that don't like mechanical BHs don't like change. You need to shoot them first to make the best decision for you and your setup.

If I'm not mistaken, there was a study done in MS that statistically suggested that mechanicals had the edge in recovered deer. Also, it's nice not to have to sight in broad heads and tear up targets. I've never had my Muzzys hit where my field points do, but I have no doubts that my Grim Reapers will.

On the other hand, if your Slick Tricks fly as well as your field points, I don't know that I'd make the switch. Honestly, despite what I've already said, I went to mechanicals mainly because I just couldn't get my Muzzys to group like my field points.

You could try the NAP bloodrunners, they are sort of a hybrid between the two. If it doesn't open (not really sure how it wouldn't) big hole, when it opens bigger hole. I'll have these and slick trick 100gr. standards in my quiver this year.

If you want full mechanical the NAP KillZone looks awesome, I may grab a pack of those too.

i started on the rage 3 blade and liked them after my first kill with them that didnt run anywhere....i went to a two blade and lost 3 deer that year for whatever reason and witnessed some 10-12 ring boiler room shot deer with two holes in it walk right by me the day after my brother shot it.....to this day if you asked me what's the most unbelievable thing you ever saw, i would say that.....at that moment i switched to swackers 100 grain and have been shooting them 3 years with no lost deer.....and none further than 60 yard run after the hit.....that's my experience.

I'm with tboneD, if STs fly good out of your set-up why switch. I actually carry ST standard 100s and rage 2 blade chisel in my quiver every time into the woods. STs for deer and rage fro Turkey. I have great confidence in both, but usually nock the STs from the deer stand. They fly great out of my set-up out to 50yds and they are devastating in the field. My 2 cents

The only negative I've heard is that they don't fly as much like a field point as other mechanicals.

There are a lot of folks on TV who shoot big midwestern deer with rages successfully. You can fake a lot of stuff on TV, but shot placement and lethality aren't on that list.

I've had good success with 100gr 2 blade chisel tips, even on marginal shots.

I've shot both styles and I prefer the mechs. I'm shooting Grim Reapers now and have been the last several years with good results. Makes no difference whether I'm shooting them or field points...they hit the same spot.
