Over the last ten years I've tried numerous fixed blades resulting in lost deer . Shot placement was good on the ones I found the next day by smell. Have killed about 50 deer since Grimreaper have come out with them. Found everyone I shoot at with the reapers. I like the idea of fix blades but get sick of the idea of wasting a deer by not finding it. Any ideas from fix blade shooters
 
I dont understand if your shot placement was good why you didnt find them. I used fixed blade broadheads for many years, if i did my job ie shot placement i always found my deer. As long as your broadheads are shaving sharp and you put one through the boiler room that should be a dead deer no matter if its a fixed blade or expandable.
 
It's not the head type. It just happens sometimes. I've seen threads about lost deer with mechanical heads and fixed. Deer are individuals. Some bleed more freely than others and some are tougher. Two identical hits on two different deer may yield completely different results. I'd mark up your problems with fixed heads as bad luck and just stay with the mechanicals that you have faith in.

Is your bow tuned for fixed blade heads? Reason I ask is it could be your not getting good, straight arrow flight with fixed blades. Mechanicals are popular cause they are more forgiving than fixed blades.

IMO, it can't be because of the broad head. Pretty much any broad head that's sharp will produce the same results if put in the same spot. Did you put new blades on after practicing with them? This was the mistake I made early in my bow hunting career, and I had the exact same result. I always use new blades each deer I shoot , and never use blades I practiced with.

The blades were brand new that I used Saturday broadleaf flew perfect. Found blood for 15 yds deer appears to have puked then a little frothy blood then nothing. Deer was found Monday eve 150 yds from shot. Looking at the body shot was a little high on entry (to be expected at 12 yds) exit was low on opposite side . From my experience should have left a wonderful blood trail.
 
What types of heads were you shooting this weekend? From your description above, it sounds like a one lung hit, which can easily end with a deer covering several hundred yards before expiring, if they even expire. Some deer overcome one lung hits to never be found.
 
What fixed blades were you shooting? I love the thunderheads. Big blood trail on the last 2 I shot. I did track a deer one time for a guy who shot it with a crossbow and some very small looking fixed blade. The wound wasn't as big and the blood was very tough to track, even though it was a double lung shot. We found the deer and it just had a noticeably smaller hole where the arrow went through. I don't remember the name of those heads but I sure wouldn't use em. Thunderheads, and from what I hear Muzzy, are hard to beat.

I had this issue with Thunder head 100s but never failed to find the deer, because they were dead within 75 yds or so.

I am trying to try out Cyclones by Flying Arrow Archery, but I haven't seen a deer....
