Next week on of my best friends has asked me to do a little fishing for bass one afternoon. I used to do some tournament fishing and it's probably been 8 years if not 10. My
Rods and reels always stay in the basement and I've got fluorocarbon on some and braid. I've got rolls still I can re string them with but how often do you all do it? Oh think it's still okay?

New line. Losing a big fish isn't worth taking the chance.

I changed my braid each year on all my reels at a minimum when I was fishing a lot.

I use primarily mono, and it gets changed about 1x per month.
The fresher line casts much better in my setups.

If they've been sitting there 8-10 years, they need new line. Even if it doesn't break, it's going to have tons of memory and give you fits. Buy a cheap spool of Trilene XL from wally world. You won't be fussing with backlashes and you can enjoy your day.
