First Yote hunt

Well, wouldn't you know that the first planned yote hunt of my career coincided with the first warm weather of the spring.

My son and I went to a spot in the back of his 14 acre farm. We may have seen a yote run off as we walked in right at daybreak. We set up with a foam rabbit decoy about 20 yards in front of us, and I played with my predator call. It sounded like crap to me, but we called in three hawks that lighted on a branch just above the decoy and sat a few seconds before flying off again.

After awhile we went back to the house, got some fishing gear, and played around in the pond.

If the hawks come in you are doing it right. I always say of the crows and hawks respond I must be doing something right.

Stay at it you will get em when you least expect it.

I've never shot one by choice, but I've called in several while deer hunting, by really coming down hard on a K'mere deer call. When you squeeze down hard with your teeth and really put a lot of air into it, it sounds like a small critter that's been caught and they just can't stand it! I just never wanted to shoot and screw up the deer hunt. LOL

Saturday was rough callin weather- warm, windy and bright moon. We called in one saturday morning but I don't think he could tell where the sound came from. He was angling downwind, disappeared into a drainage and never came out. I was surprised anything responded at all. Sunday should be a good morning by the long term forecast. Go getem'
