First white oak acorns this year

Found these today on the TN River. I can't believe they are this early. Some obviously were knocked out by squirrels or wind but some look like they are freshly fallen.

I've scouted two different areas this past week and found trees already dropping on both. The deer had already started hitting one of them good. I found several dropping piles. Seems like the trees are really loaded this year. I'm in East, TN.

Got a giant chestnut tree on my family farm. Some years they absolutely hammer it. Others they never get touched. It's odd

swamp chestnut or mountain oak? Swamp chestnuts are good, like a chinkapin with oversized acorns. Around here you see "mountain oaks" with the acorns you see in the OP's photo. They only grow at high elevation and I always see the acorns rotting on the ground.

Our place is loaded with mountain chestnut oaks. The deer hammer them until the white oaks start dropping. Even then, they will eat them quite frequently depending on the year.

However, we are surrounded by pines, clearcuts and cattle pasture, so our place is the only place around (respectively) with any type acorns.

Everything is loaded this year in Hickman. Limbs full of acorns were slapping me in the face while on the tractor this weekend

Absolutely Cat, Definitely not their favorite but I have arrowed many under them when they are the only acorn available.

around here, some of the northern red oaks drop early as well. I usually find the earliest deer sign under those trees. But I don't always hunt around chestnut oaks

Usually hit them again in late season when they are only acorn left on ground.
