First time bow hunter

I'm looking to start bow hunting this year and honestly don't have a clue as to where to start looking for a bow. I wouldn't mind starting with a used one, if it's in decent shape. Anybody have any suggestions on makes and models? Also, any insight on arrows and broadheads would be nice too. I'm a pretty low budget for now, so cost efficient would be great as well. I'm looking to start hunting next month when Turkey season sets in. Thanks!
 
It will be tough to get comfortable enough by next month to hunt with especially if you have never shot a bow before . I would recommend going and shooting as many bows as possible and find the one that is right for you . Maybe try and find a shop that has some used bows as well .
 
Find a good bow shop that is willing to help ya out. I would imagine some of the guys here could recommend a good shop in your area. As far as choices go, it will depends on a price range for each piece of equipment. Good luck!

There is a shop in Franklin called Archers Den.
There is Poindexters in Gallatin.
There is Steves in Columbia.
Murfreesboro Outdoors.
Sportsman Store in Dickson.
There is a couple of shops in Clarksville.
There is shop in Sparta.
There is a shop in Herndon Kentucky (about an hour and a half up I-24)
There may be more around Middle Tennessee, but that is all I know of.

I believe I'm left eye dominant and right handed

You need to find out because it can have an effect on target acquisition and shooting if you can't switch focus with each eye�only some can do this. Hold both hands out at arms length and put one over the other, now make a small hole between each thumb and index finger and focus on an object through that small hole. As your focusing, close one eye at a time. Which eye was the object still visible and which eye was the object covered up by your hand when you had the other eye closed? The eye that you could still see the object with is your dominate eye�for a right-handed shooter pray that you're right-eyed dominate....most are.
 
Then close your hands up more. ie, make the hole between your hands smaller (Don't you guys say it!!!) Unless you are severely crosseyed then a smaller opening will align with one eye while the other eye will only see the back of your hand.
Focus on something small across the room or down a hallway. Start with the hands spread far apart. Then slowly bring your hands together while focusing on the object (like a doorknob, or something that size or smaller). Keep closing your hands until the only thing you can see between your thumbs and fore fingers is the object. Then close one eye then the other, but don't move your hands or your head. You will only be able to see the object with one eye. Repeat the test 3 or 4 times. Come back some time later and do it again. You will see a trend. Left or right will be dominant (unless you have some type of vision problem, like crosseyed).
 
ok I did it a few times and my right eye seems to be more dominant. That's a relief! Thanks for the help in figuring that out!
 
Cool, that means you will need to look for a right handed bow in the 29" draw length range. I would try to find one that will adjust a little shorter and a little longer if you can. Some bows will just be one DL with no adj. If that is what you end up with don't worry. You can get started and adjust later if need be. 29" is the most common DL. So that is a great place to start. I've got some old bows at my house I will check and see if I have anything in that DL. But, I don't believe I do. I'm a longarmed apelike creature. My DL is around 32" But I may have an old one I have accumulated. Let me see what I've got.
