I was watching a hayfield and right at dark I heard a buck grunting chasing a doe behind me in the woods and then I heard another deer walk in from farther out and snort wheeze, first time I've heard that in the wild, pretty dang cool, too bad I couldn't see any of it
 
Easy I was convinced that was just a made up sound or gemick. Every time I tried it only response I got was white tails and more blowing than a tuba in a Symphony Orchestra. I still can't get myself to try it again but I feel better about reading this post.
 
My first archery buck snort wheezed right before I shot him, first and only time I have heard that. It was pretty cool, he was only 7 yards away

I wouldn't try making that sound on a buck that is less than dominant. Just my opinion though, I've never tried to make that sound at a deer. The buck I saw snort wheeze last year was a mature deer with half a rack and scars on his neck, and he was snort wheezing at a yearling that was checking out his does.
 
Heard a big buck roar for the first time last year. Then heard him grunting as he got closer. Finally saw him as he was corralling a doe in a small wood lot near my stand. Couldn't get him within bow range. I will never forgot that roar sound. it sounded like a monster in the woods.
 
I've heard it before and it made the hair stand up on my neck, because it was unexpected.

I actually heard it and a month or so later they were talking about it on a show I was watching, so then i knew what to call it.

I heard a big buck do that several years back, crazy sound, if I didn't know what was doing it I would have been freaked out a little
 
I have heard it several times in Missouri. My biggest buck to date snort-wheezed at several smaller bucks before I shot him. I think it's more common in an intense rut with lots of older age bucks around.
