Feels so good to finally put some meat in the freezer! Been a frustrating, but fun season so far. Lots of deer seen from the stand, just young bucks I wouldn't shoot and does that would never give me a good shot.

He's not my target buck on the farm, but he's been in my head since mid October and I'm more than happy to burn tag #1 on him. Had two encounters with this dude before tonight. During bow season, he came in with 2 other bucks. When I went to draw, one of them picked me off and blew and ran. He never saw me but ran off with the bunch. Then yesterday morning, I watched a small basket rack breed a doe 10 yards from my tree. I went to shoot her afterwards, and my gun misfired. Dang percussion caps on this old Knight. I finally got another cap on the nipple and went to get her in the scope again, and here comes this buck again chasing off the smaller buck. I had one clear shot, pulled up, squeeze trigger and sure enough my safety was still on from when I was putting a new cap on. I flick it off, but he's running again and never stopped for another shot.

Tonight he came in at 10 mins after sunset chasing another smaller buck off. He only gave me a hard quartering to shot and he was getting antsy so I put it in front of his right shoulder blade and boom. Dropped in his tracks.

This was a beast of a deer!! It took us two attempts to get him up on the back of ATV. He was covered in fat!! Good job, son. Way to stay after him and not give up. (You musta had a good teacher). ;)
